Scope:
We are looking for an experienced International Employment Tax Specialist to join our Human Capital Group in London or Manchester. In this role, you will support the Employment Tax Director with employment tax related matters, interacting closely with HR, Payroll, Reward, Tax, and Accounting. This is a key role within the Human Capital Group that provides support to the business on governance/oversight around UK employment and global expatriate related compliance within the HL group. Based in the UK, there will be exposure to other jurisdictions as part of the role. You will be key in ensuring the delivery of employment tax returns and compliance reporting is undertaken on an accurate and timely basis as well as supporting UK Governance and oversight in respect the UK Senior Accounting Officer Regime and related regulations
Responsibilities
As the International Employment Tax Specialist, you will:-
- Ensure a robust employment tax compliance framework in conjunction with stakeholders within Tax, Accounting, HR, Payroll and Reward.
- Supporting global tax, accounting and business teams on employment tax matters and provide advice in the case of audit or tax disputes
- Support the reward team on aspects of employment tax related to Global Mobility, Company Share plans, Payroll, Benefits and Expenses.
- Provide employment tax advice, related to cessation of employment including PENP calculations.
- Drive employment tax input in policies and procedures, e.g. travel and expenses, benefits/recognition schemes, stock plan, engagement of workers, global mobility and International payroll.
- Manage and advise on tax implications and structure of assignments and transfers.
- Advising on the taxation of share awards across all locations and internationally mobile employees
- Provide technical input and advice for Finance, HR and Payroll
- Advising on employee cross border issues relating to income tax and social security
- Undertaking employment tax compliance activities, including (but not limited to) the following:
- Managing the execution of UK year-end returns:
- PSA returns
- P11Ds and payrolled benefits & expenses
- Short Term Business Visitor Reporting (Appendix 5 & 8)
- ERS return (formerly Form 42)
- Managing other year end returns, such as
- Australian FBT
- US W2-C income
- Managing the execution of UK year-end returns:
- Advising on the tax implications of new award structures as necessary
- Reviewing and advising on off-payroll status of contingent workforce including employment status for contractors across the group
- Keeping up to date with legislation changes and adapting processes and procedures to remain compliant including deployment enterprise software implementation
- Providing employment tax training to stakeholders where required
- Working with multiple stakeholders in Tax, Accounting, HR, Payroll and Reward to implement and review internal processes and procedures globally as required including leading the drive for a smooth transition into the Senior Accounting Officer Regime for employment taxes
- Contribute to the management of the relationship with external advisors and communication with tax authorities, including resolving queries; Supporting with any required disclosure and remediation of employment tax issues
- Assisting on Ad Hoc projects
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate for this role will have:-
- 3-5 years of relevant experience within employment tax
- In depth UK employment tax knowledge required with an understanding of US and European tax issues, double tax treaties, bilateral social security agreements, employee share schemes.
- Commercial and pragmatic approach to problem solving and the ability to communicate complex tax matters to both tax and non-tax audience
- ATT or CTA qualified or equivalent tax management experience
- Education to degree standard
- Strong analytical skills
- Strong interpersonal skills and an excellent team player
- Proven stakeholder management skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Pro-active self-starter, with the ability to work independently
- The ability to work under pressure with a flexible ‘can do’ attitude
- Strong organisational skills & high attention to detail
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience of providing employment tax advice to clients is an advantage
- Experience in the wider financial services arena
