Job Overview

Jensen Hughes is seeking a dedicated and collaborative Fire Protection Engineer with 10 + years of experience to join our Toronto office. This role will support fire protection projects across Ontario and Canada. We welcome applications from qualified engineers and engineering technologists who are passionate about safety, technical excellence, and client service.

As an Intermediate to Senior Fire Protection Engineer, you will lead the design, review, and implementation of fire protection and life safety systems. This includes sprinkler and standpipe systems, special hazard suppression systems, and fire alarm systems. You’ll also contribute to technical assessments, code consulting, and commissioning services, supporting a wide range of public and private sector projects.

Responsibilities

  • Apply expert knowledge of applicable codes and standards including the Ontario Building Code (OBC), National Building and Fire Codes of Canada (NBC/NFC), NFPA standards (e.g., 13, 14, 20, 25), and ULC standards (e.g., S524, S536, S537, S1001).
  • Lead fire protection system design using software tools such as AutoSPRINK, Revit, AutoCAD, and Bluebeam.
  • Conduct site assessments for hazard identification and code compliance.
  • Support construction administration tasks, including interpreting CCDC-2 contracts, responding to RFIs, reviewing shop drawings, and coordinating closeout documentation such as O&M manuals.
  • Lead or support ULC-S1001 Integrated Systems Testing, including test coordination, documentation, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Collaborate with clients and internal teams to develop technical reports and proposals, including cost estimating for system design and scope development.
  • Provide clear direction to contractors and work closely with architects, consultants, and project stakeholders.
  • Maintain proactive communication with clients, prioritizing timely updates, transparency, and relationship-building.
  • Support business development efforts by identifying opportunities and participating in client meetings and presentations.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering (Mechanical, Fire Protection, or related discipline).
  • Registered or eligible for registration as a P.Eng. in Ontario through Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO).
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in fire protection engineering, with project management experience on construction values between $50,000 and $1 million.
  • Engineering Technologists with equivalent experience and demonstrated technical competencies are encouraged to apply.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a commitment to fostering inclusive, respectful, and collaborative working relationships.

$110,000$160,000 CAD
