We are seeking an Associate Director of Admissions, Athletics who will balance the core admission officer responsibilities of recruitment and management of a regional territory while also providing leadership and management of staff over a key programmatic or process area(s) across the office. In this focused role, he/she will develop and manage our strategy aimed at supporting the recruitment and enrollment of student-athletes.
The Associate Director of Admissions, Athletics manages a team and partners with the Director of Admissions to identify opportunities, create and improve processes, and support the development of staff members in all key areas of the admissions officer role.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Supports the Director of Admissions throughout the Early Decision (I and II), Regular Decision, and Transfer Admission cycles with the evaluation and selection of student-athletes.
- Provides leadership within the admissions/athletics partnership.
- Supports the development of a strategy to recruit student-athletes.
- Develops and conducts admissions messaging and process trainings with athletics staff.
- Partners with the Director of Marketing and Communications to develop content and materials specific to athletics.
- Collaborates with athletics to ensure a broad range of perspectives in our programming.
- Works with the Sr. Director of Systems and Operations to develop tools utilized throughout the athletics recruitment and selection process.
- Will be the direct manager for admissions staff members – providing supervision, mentorship, and professional development.
- Manages a regional territory – reading applications, planning recruitment strategies and initiatives, and managing relationships.
- Develops a strategy to engage various stakeholders in the admissions process (families, school counselors, educators, etc).
- Oversees the regional management of his/her direct reports—providing guidance for recruitment strategies and relationship management with secondary school constituents and the review of applications and decisions.
- Represents JHU Admissions in public events and information sessions.
- Works collaboratively across teams and with other offices at JHU (e.g. Marketing, Operations, Visitors Center, Financial Aid, etc.).
Special Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities
- Ability to communicate effectively with prospective students, parents, secondary school counselors, faculty, and other university partners, as well as the ability to represent Johns Hopkins University to the public.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision, independently, and as part of a team.
- Demonstrates the utmost level of professionalism with both internal and external constituents.
- Knowledge of standard office software applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Ability to build, propose, and maintain a budget.
Additional Requirements
- Ability to travel extensively and work nights and weekends as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- Five years related experience.
- Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
- Travel and occasional weekend and evening hours, including the ability to travel to events with occasional overnight stays, are required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree.
- Eight years of related experience.
- Five years of admissions experience.
- Experience as a college or university admissions officer preferred, which would include recruitment, travel, and application review.
