We are seeking a Senior Assistant Director of Admissions, Constituent Engagement whowill balance the core admission officer responsibilities of recruitment and management of a regional territory while also providing leadership over a key programmatic or process area(s) across the office.

The Senior Assistant Director sits on the management team and partners with office leadership to develop goals, ensuring academic quality and various perspectives in the incoming class. This position will provide leadership for our constituent engagement, developing programming and content for individuals supporting students through the college admissions process.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

The Senior Assistant Director of Undergraduate Admissions

  • Provides leadership over a key business area within the undergraduate admissions office: responsible for the strategic direction, logistics, timelines, planning, and evaluation of processes and policies that fall within their designated area of focus.
  • Provides oversight of major programs and/processes and connects them to strategies in other areas of the office to work towards institutional goals.
  • Builds relationships with all relevant third parties (within Undergraduate admissions as well as across the university) to collaborate effectively towards goals.
  • Works with the management team to develop a strategic vision for their respective areas of focus.
  • Develops an evaluative structure for effective programing in their designated area of focus: work with office leadership to create tools and/or an analysis plan to analyze and improve work in their strategic areas.
    • Builds short- and long-term plans to set goals, implement new strategies and evaluate them over time.
    • Identify future areas for innovation/growth within their area.
  • Creates any staff training content around their area of focus.
  • Manages a regional territory—read applications, plan recruitment strategies and initiatives, and manage constituent relationships.
  • Represents JHU Admissions in public events and information sessions.

Responsibilities as a Senior Assistant Director, Constituent Engagement

Strategic Leadership

  • Supports the office with creating and implementing a strategic plan for engaging constituents (counselors, family members, teachers, etc) that is both additive and complementary to our prospective student recruitment.
    • Evaluates our current programming and resources.
    • Develops on and off campus events specially for individuals supporting students in the college admissions process.
    • Partners with the Marketing and Communications team to develop content relevant to these audiences.
    • Partners with Systems and Operations team to oversee database management.
  • Builds and fosters relationships with key faculty and offices across the university.
  • Provides leadership to multiple cross functional working groups.

Data Analysis

  • Works with Operations and IT team to develop necessary data tools to analyze the effectiveness of our engagement.
  • Develops periodic reports to the leadership team.

Staff Supervision

  • Supervises admissions officers.
    • Responsible for growth and development of employee in role.
  • Works with management team to support the growth of staff members across the office.

Staff Training

  • Oversees the planning, execution, and evaluation of on-campus engagement staff training.

Special Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities

  • Ability to communicate effectively with prospective students, parents, secondary school counselors, faculty and other university partners as well as the ability to represent Johns Hopkins University to the public.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong event management and development skills.
  • Demonstrates the utmost level of professionalism with both internal and external constituents.
  • Possesses strong cultural competency and understanding of student educational experiences coming from various backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of standard office software applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook.
  • Ability to build, propose, and maintain a budget.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Five years of progressively responsible related experience
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience as a college or university admissions officer preferred, which would include recruitment and application review.
  • Ability to travel extensively and work nights and weekends as needed.
