We are seeking a Senior Assistant Director, On-Campus Recruitment who will balance the core admission officer responsibilities of recruitment and management of a regional territory while also providing leadership over a key programmatic or process area(s) across the office.

The Senior Assistant Director sits on the management team and partners with office leadership to develop goals for initiatives across the work. This position will provide leadership for our on-campus recruitment, developing high impact programming and increasing the capacity and volume of prospective students engaging with the campus.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

The Senior Assistant Director, On-Campus Rec

  • Provides leadership over a key business area within the undergraduate admissions office: responsible for the strategic direction, logistics, timelines, planning, and evaluation of processes and policies that fall within their designated area of focus.
  • Provides oversight of major programs and/processes and connects them to strategies in other areas of the office to work towards institutional goals.
  • Builds relationships with all relevant third parties (within Undergraduate admissions as well as across the university) to collaborate effectively towards goals.
  • Works with the management team to develop a strategic vision for their respective areas of focus.
  • Develops an evaluative structure for effective programing in their designated area of focus: work with office leadership to create tools and/or an analysis plan to analyze and improve work in their strategic areas.
    • Builds short- and long-term plans to set goals, implement new strategies and evaluate them over time.
    • Identify future areas for innovation/growth within their area.
  • Creates any staff training content around their area of focus.
  • Manages a regional territory—read applications, plan recruitment strategies and initiatives, and manage constituent relationships.
  • Represents JHU Admissions in public events and information sessions.

In particular, this position will support and oversee the on-campus recruitment strategy

Responsibilities as a Senior Assistant Director, On-Campus Recruitment

Strategic Leadership

  • Supports the Director of Recruitment with creating and implementing a strategic plan for on-campus engagement that is both additive and complementary to virtual programming and off campus recruitment initiatives.
    • Develops tactics to drive key prospective and admitted students to campus.
    • Develops new and enhance/revise existing on-campus engagement.
    • Creates- a plan to increase the capacity and volume of on-campus visitors.

Oversees the development of student workers

  • Leads cross-functional teams that recruit, retain, and train student workers Works with the Marketing and Communications team to manage a communication plan relevant to on-campus recruitment.

Partnership Development

  • Builds and fosters relationships with key faculty and offices across the university.
  • Collaborates with various teams across the university to deliver high impact on-campus engagement.
  • Primary liaison to vendors.
    • Maintains contracts and maximize offerings.
    • Updates and modify as necessary to meet business needs.

Data Analysis

  • Works with Operations and IT team to develop necessary data tools to analyze the effectiveness of on-campus recruitment.
  • Assesses and evaluates current on-campus recruitment (with both quantitative and qualitative data), find ways to measure success and implement changes.
  • Includes biweekly, quarterly, and year in review analysis.

Staff Supervision

  • Supervises admissions officers.
  • Responsible for growth and development of employee in role.
  • Oversees and supervises members of the Events Team and Visitor Center Team.
  • Works with management team to support the growth of staff members across the office.

Staff Training

  • Oversees the planning, execution, and evaluation of on-campus engagement staff training.

Special Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities

  • Ability to communicate effectively with prospective students, parents, secondary school counselors, faculty and other university partners as well as the ability to represent Johns Hopkins University to the public.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong event management and development skills.
  • Demonstrates the utmost level of professionalism with both internal and external constituents.
  • Possesses strong cultural competency and understanding of student educational experiences coming from diverse backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of standard office software applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook.
  • Ability to build, propose, and maintain a budget.

Additional requirements

  • Ability to travel extensively and work nights and weekends as needed.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Five years progressively responsible related experience
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience as a college or university admissions officer preferred, which would include recruitment and application review.
