School of Medicine, Pediatric Infectious Disease is seeking a Research Data Analyst to provide data analysis and related activities for various types of research projects and studies. The Research Data Analyst will contribute to ongoing development, maintenance, and use of a research data pipeline that collects and analyzes data.

The Research Data Analyst will support data analysis activities for the SMART4TB TA2 Therapeutics study Shortened Regimen for Drug-susceptible TB in Children (SMILE-TB) and support ongoing data cleaning and analysis of the SMILE-TB trial implemented at 9 clinical research sites across Uganda, Mozambique, Zambia, Indonesia, India, Zimbabwe and South Africa. The SMILE_TB study is a phase III randomized controlled trial that aims to identify a shorter and safer therapy for children with pulmonary and/or peripheral lymph node tuberculosis.

This role utilizes pediatric TB clinical expertise alongside knowledge of theory and statistics and applies these skills to the administration of data analysis, including assessment of safety data and adverse events.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Collect data and generate reports and models.
  • Run models, analyze model results, and prepare reports on the analysis.
  • Conduct analyses in support of the assigned research project or study.
  • Conduct statistical analyses using standard and statistical software packages.
  • Design and prepare tables to illustrate analytic findings.
  • Manage or contribute to entry of data in the assigned database.
  • May engage in other research related responsibilities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

In addition to the duties described above

  • Assist with the reviewing, editing, and finalizing study-related documents (protocol, case report forms, study SOPs) in collaboration with PI and study team.
  • Review and summarize safety data reports including listings of all grades 3 and 4 adverse events, grade 2 and higher AESIs, and Expedited Adverse Events including death.
  • Review clinical aspects of adverse event reports/data and provide guidance on clinical management of children diagnosed with TB
  • Provide pediatric TB clinical expertise as member of the Clinical Management Committee
  • Assist data analysis team with clinical understanding of adverse events in children diagnosed with TB and other data interpretation needs
  • Generate, follow up and resolve data queries in the REDCap database
  • Provide quality assurance oversight to preserve the rights and safety of research participants


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in related discipline.
  • Three years of related experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in diagnosis and treatment of pediatric TB in low resource settings strongly preferred.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish proficiency.
  • Three years of hands-on patient care experience in a hospital setting providing patient care in a resource-limited setting.
  • Extensive experience with STATA and/or R, REDCap, Endnote, MS Word and MS Excel.
