The Global Fixed Income, Currency and Commodities team (GFICC) at J.P. Morgan Asset Management (JPMAM) is one of the world’s deepest and best-resourced fixed income managers, with expertise across all major fixed income sectors, including niche markets. Every investment decision in our fixed income solutions is underpinned by the proprietary research of a globally integrated team of sector specialists. Our shared research language, combining fundamental, quantitative valuation and technical inputs, facilitates the comparison of ideas across sectors and geographies. Global Fixed Income, Currency and Commodities manages a broad range of strategies, through funds and/or separate accounts, including broad market, long duration, stable value, intermediate high yield, emerging market debt, short and ultra-short duration, global bonds, structured products, mortgages and tax-aware strategies.
GFICC - Emerging Market Corporate Debt Credit Research team is looking to hire a junior Analyst in Mumbai to support the Senior Research Analysts in order to leverage and enhance their ability to generate positive investment performance. You will be expected to work on a wide range of credit research projects, with tasks including, but not limited to, information gathering as well as financial statement analysis, assisting Senior Research analysts in the preparation of corporation review materials from a credit perspective.
Job Responsibilities:
- Gathering and analyzing data, calculating performances, from a variety of sources, including company reports, the internet, online databases such as Bloomberg, Fact Set, other databases, as well as JPMAM proprietary content
- Development of a database for the Emerging Market Corporate Debt Team that would comprise major financial information, key metrics and ratios
- Building and maintaining credit models for companies without errors in a timely manner; analysis of company numbers, generating regular and adhoc reports, graphs and datasets from these model. The analyst should be able to (A) construct a financial or credit model independently, (B) explain and defend key trends and assumptions, and (C) analyze the building blocks of credit ratings and key rating triggers.
- Analysis of various market metrics including, but not limited to, Supply Demand Factors, Sectoral views, BASEL rules. Strong understanding of Fixed Income Markets as well as developing sectoral understanding of securities that would help the analyst build holistic views on companies from a credit standpoint.
- Able to analyze capitalization, credit quality, funding and liquidity profile and profitability from financial statements of financial institutions including banks, insurance and finance companies. The analysis would help build various credit metrics in order for the entire EMD Corp research team to get an accurate credit scenario for selecting companies.
- Writing content (text, tables and charts) for company and industry reports and preparing presentations to be used internally. Be able to write up summary of presentation and distribute to the team.
- Maintaining regular contact with colleagues in the global team, taking part in conference calls and responding to project requests and taking full ownership of various projects.
Required qualifications, capabilities and skills:
- Post graduate degree required
- Should have at least 2 years of relevant investment research experience; with prior experience in Fixed Income Research
- Strong analytical skill, measured investment judgement, decision-making, intellectual curiosity, intellectual honesty, teamwork and pro-active & effective communication, both written and verbal are mandatory
- Strong Microsoft office skills (Word, Excel, Power point);
- Solid understanding of financial markets, investment theories and asset valuations
- A strong motivation to learn and manage projects independently;
- This is a demanding job requiring highly motivated individuals who are willing to work hard to build up their knowledge base, performance track record and credibility within the team
Preferred qualifications, capabilities and skills:
- CFA preferred
- Proficiency in Python/VBA programming would be preferred
