Tax Control is the team responsible for the FATCA, CRS and US Form 1099 governance and oversight of the various Transfer Agents (‘TA’) activity.
We are seeking a candidate who is a versatile and adaptable professional, capable of accurate execution with proficiency and efficiency. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a clear understanding of the various tax regimes applicable to investor tax reporting, as well as a keen ability to contribute to system and operational improvements. Reporting to the Team Manager, you will have responsibility for the following:
Job Responsibilities:
- Review tax documentation/self-certification forms for completeness and reasonableness in accordance with regulatory requirements and investor KYC
- Quality control of tax related information in TA systems, and liaison with TA’s to query as required
- Take accountability for the preparation and submission of the annual US 1099 reports as well as FATCA and CRS returns
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders e.g. Corporate Tax, AML, TA Oversight and Client Service teams, as well as Transfer Agents and other vendors
- Act as a point of contact for all FATCA, CRS and US Form 1099 queries
- Respond to various stakeholder queries, including relevant tax authorities, in a comprehensive and timely manner
- Deliver regular updates to business stakeholders via governance meetings as required
- Take accountability for monitoring service provision delivered by our external Transfer Agents and take action, as appropriate
- Continuous improvement in the quality & efficiency of controls and oversight on existing processes
- Supporting the Team Manager in the analysis and implementation of new regulatory requirements
- Deputise for the Team Manager as required
- Identify opportunities to integrate AI, automation, and the latest technology developments.
Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills
- Solid understanding of client/investor onboarding and Transfer Agency (TA) processes
- Understanding of fund structures, investor life-cycle and tax reporting
- Demonstrated ability as a proactive, strategic self-starter with strong time management and business analyst skills and the ability to understand and explain complex issues to non-specialized audiences
- Fluency in written and spoken English is essential with strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Proven experience building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders
- Ability to translate regulatory requirements into solution designs and facilitate prioritization.
- Experience working with cross-functional teams, including change management, business, and third-party vendors.
- Ability to manage multiple activities concurrently to achieve successful outcomes.
- Act on own initiative and fulfil objectives with small supervision
- Must be a team player with the ability to network with co-workers but also have the ability to work independently and prioritise own workflows.
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Office Suite with an advanced ability to create and provide solutions to automate manual processes
- Strong appreciation for the legal and regulatory environments under which the funds and Management Companies operate
Preferred capabilities and skills
- Previous experience in a similar role with an Asset Manager/TA is preferred and will be considered an asset
