As an Emerging Technology Lawyer in the Technology Legal Team, you will become a thought leader and trusted advisor to multiple business units seeking to leverage new technologies for product and service innovation. You will play an important role in structuring and negotiating complex agreements with various third parties, including universities, government research labs, and commercial entities. This position offers the chance to work at the intersection of technology and finance, collaborating with cross-functional teams to solve novel legal challenges and drive the Bank’s ambitious technology agenda.

Job Responsibilities:
- Advise business, strategy, and technology stakeholders on legal risks related to emerging technology initiatives.
- Structure and negotiate agreements with vendors, partners, and third parties for blockchain, digital assets, and quantum computing projects.
- Negotiate and structure engagements with universities and national laboratories on cutting-edge research collaborations.
- Partner with regulatory and government relations teams to guide global policy on digital assets, central bank digital currencies, and distributed ledger technologies.
- Provide advisory and transactional support to applied research teams and innovation centers.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address novel legal issues in financial services technology applications.
- Educate and counsel internal legal colleagues on emerging technology topics.
- Draft and negotiate complex documentation, including NDAs, evaluation agreements, proofs of concept, MOUs, and consortia agreements.
- Independently identify legal issues, analyze problems, and deliver practical solutions.
- Communicate effectively with business clients, technologists, and other stakeholders to provide strategic legal guidance.
- Manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a high-performance, fast-paced environment.
Required Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills:
- JD or educational equivalent; compliance with all relevant attorney licensing requirements.
- Minimum 5 years of experience advising on complex commercial matters, with at least 3 years focused on emerging technologies in the financial industry.
- Demonstrated ability to draft and negotiate unique and complicated agreements.
- Proven analytical skills to identify issues and provide viable solutions independently.
- Strong knowledge of legal issues and business use cases for emerging technologies in finance.
- Experience advising on complex legal and regulatory matters with limited regulatory guidance.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with diverse stakeholders.
- Ability to work accurately under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
- Strong business judgment and strategic thinking.
- Exceptional verbal, written, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to educate and counsel internal clients on EmTech issues.
Preferred Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills:
- Familiarity with global regulatory issues affecting emerging technologies in financial services.
- Experience partnering with regulatory affairs teams to formulate feedback and advocacy positions.
- Strong legal research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to build consensus across a global, matrixed organization.
- Experience in forming and negotiating consortia and research agreements.
- Demonstrated ability to influence industry standards and regulatory policy.
- Track record of supporting innovation in a high-performance environment.
