As an Attorney - Vice President, Assistant General Counsel within the J.P. Morgan Payments legal team, your focus will be on supporting the Merchant Services business. As part of the Commercial & Investment Bank, J.P. Morgan Payments enables organizations of all sizes to execute transactions efficiently and securely, transforming the movement of information, money and assets. Merchant Services is a line of business within J.P. Morgan Payments, and is a global merchant acquirer that provides payment processing services (authorizations, conveyance and settlement of transactions involving credit and debit cards, electronic checks and other payment methods).
The Legal Department at JPMorganChase manages legal and other risks, advises on products and services, interprets laws and regulations that impact the firm, and advises the firm on other matters. Job responsibilities
- Drafting and negotiating various agreements
- Advising on products and services including the support of new product implementations, product change initiatives, and drafting customer-facing terms of service and related documentation
- Negotiating commercial agreements with J.P. Morgan customers, vendors and suppliers, and third-party strategic partners
- Advising on marketing documents and new business initiatives
- Interpreting existing laws, rules and regulations and advising on changes thereto
- Coordinating with Legal Department members in other lines of business on a variety of legal, regulatory and business matters
- Providing legal advice to the business and corporate functions on a broad range of issues
- Collaborating with other functional partners to ensure appropriate awareness and escalation of issues as they arise
- Participating in cross line of business initiatives/practice groups as a subject matter expert
- Managing outside counsel
Required qualifications, capabilities and skills
- J.D. degree and minimum 5 years of experience in a law firm or in-house experience within a financial institution or bank
- Strong legal and technical drafting skills
- Transactional and negotiating experience
- Pragmatic mindset with the ability to provide concrete, actionable legal advice
- Proven capacity to assume significant independent responsibility immediately
- Comfortable operating in fast-paced, global, and cross-border environments
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and strategic thinking skills
- Outstanding organizational and project management abilities, managing multiple complex matters simultaneously
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including with senior executives and non-legal professionals
- Ability to build and maintain strong client and colleague relationships
