In this Executive Director role, you will set the approach and oversee delivery of regulatory legal advice across the firm’s businesses and corporate functions. You will synthesize complex technical information into clear guidance, coordinate attorneys monitoring UK/EU developments, and serve as a key point of contact with regulatory and legislative affairs. You’ll manage initiatives, partner with industry bodies, and lead training to ensure timely, compliant implementation of change.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate attorneys monitoring and analysing UK/EU legislation and regulation across banking and investment services, including market infrastructure, payments, consumer protection, digital assets, and artificial intelligence.
  • Advise business, compliance, and other stakeholders on regulatory change and adherence to legal, industry, and supervisory requirements.
  • Coordinate impact assessments of regulatory changes with business and corporate stakeholders, and support advocacy efforts where appropriate.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact with the firm’s regulatory and legislative affairs functions.
  • Represent the firm at industry events and initiatives; participate in meetings with senior regulators.
  • Develop and deliver training programs for line‑of‑business legal teams on regulatory changes and compliance obligations.
  • Collaborate across Legal, Compliance, and business stakeholders in multiple jurisdictions, particularly EMEA and the U.S.
  • Engage and manage outside counsel when appropriate.
  • Support special projects, including regulatory change implementation and related governance.
  • Promote consistent risk awareness, documentation standards, and timely escalation across initiatives.

Required Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills

  • UK or other European qualified lawyer with significant post‑qualification experience in in‑house financial services legal roles.
  • Deep knowledge of laws and regulations governing the provision of banking and investment products and services, across Corporate & Investment Bank and Retail.
  • Strong product, technical, legal, and risk awareness, with the ability to work across a broad set of products and services.
  • Strong knowledge of UK and European supervisory regimes for authorized credit institutions and investment firms.
  • Experienced attorney with solid knowledge of international financial institutions.
  • Demonstrated experience managing demanding, multi‑jurisdiction projects and leading a group of attorneys.
  • Ability to quickly familiarize yourself with and advise authoritatively on new regulatory developments as they emerge.

Preferred Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills

  • Relevant experience providing banking regulatory legal advice.
  • Self‑starter with a hands‑on mentality and a collaborative, team‑oriented approach.
  • Ability to operate comfortably in a global organization.
  • Experience working with senior management of financial institutions, including board members.
