Join our Asia Edge Economics team in Singapore, part of the EM Edge and Global Research teams, to analyse macroeconomic drivers and develop your understanding of frontier economies in Asia. As we develop the EM Edge franchise, we are expanding the coverage of Asia frontiers from Vietnam, Pakistan, Mongolia and Sri Lanka currently.
The Emerging Markets Economic Research Team is looking to hire an economist based in Singapore. You need to have a solid economic background and knowledge of political and economic developments related to the Asia region with a focus on regional frontiers. This role offers exposure to global frontier economies. A good knowledge of analysing macroeconomic data and of forecasting techniques is needed.
As an Economist in the Global Research team, you will focus on analyzing macro/fundamental drivers of various economies, creating models, and collaborating with economists and strategists. You will contribute to regular reports and interact with external clients and internal teams to provide insights and forecasts. The environment is dynamic and requires intense work.
Job Responsibilities
- Analyse macro/fundamental drivers of various economies, independently or under the guidance of the existing Senior Asia Edge Economist.
- Regularly write analysis of economies covered and regularly contribute to EM Edge publication.
- Create and maintain models and analytical tools.
- Collaborate regularly with the EM Asia as well as EM Edge teams; collaborate with other Global Research teams.
- Liaise with strategists and other economists to formulate forecasts and views.
- Interact with external clients on customized requests and assist internal sales and trading.
- Compile chart books and templates for weekly/monthly/ad hoc publications.
Required Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, or related disciplines
- Mininum 3 years experience within a Research role on the sell-side or buy-side or IMF/central bank.
- Strong quantitative skills with proven aptitude to analyse macro data and develop econometric models for a range of economies.
- Ability to work with spreadsheets and statistical programming languages/packages (Eviews, R, Python).
- Strong knowledge of regional political, economic, and business trends and prospects.
- Good written and oral communication skills; attention to detail.
