As a Vice President or Associate in the EMEA Emerging Markets Credit team, you will cover corporate and financial institution clients across the Emerging Europe and Sub-Saharan Africa regions. You will work closely with business partners across the region including Debt Capital Markets, Acquisition and Leveraged Finance, M&A, Corporate Bank, Markets, Treasury Services, and Trade Finance. Given the broad sector and client base covered, we focus on performing credit analysis on investment grade and non-investment grade clients across corporates, financial institutions, and sovereign-related entities, as well as structuring and documenting a wide variety of credit products.

Job responsibilities

  • Serve as the credit expert for a portfolio of clients in the region, with primary responsibility for credit exposure.
  • Manage clients across industries including corporates, financial institutions, and sovereign-related entities, including monitoring credit ratings, sector trends, and client performance.
  • Lead due diligence, credit analysis, and financial modelling of counterparties, transactions, and complex financing structures; drive preparation of credit memos and recommend appropriate structure, risk appetite, and grading.
  • Work across products including secured and unsecured loans, derivatives, trade and treasury products, and related documentation; lead structuring, negotiation, and execution of loan documentation, derivatives, and other facilities.
  • Make sound credit recommendations and own the credit approval decision.
  • Balance a commercial and solution-driven mindset with a sound risk and controls attitude.
  • Track market and industry developments and their impact on clients, keeping up to date with the political and macroeconomic environment and maintaining in-depth knowledge of portfolio clients.
  • Build relationships with key internal and external stakeholders and foster team knowledge.
  • Coach and train junior team members on technical and professional skills (leading or as part of a portfolio team).
  • Meet clients and lead due diligence meetings

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Strong analytical and credit skills/judgment, covering both qualitative and quantitative aspects.
  • Demonstrable product knowledge of a wide range of lending, derivative and treasury services products and associated documentation.
  • Established team player with project management skills and ability to take end-to-end ownership of work/projects.
  • Ability to take an active role in identifying key issues and concerns relating to clients, their industries, and transaction structures.
  • Ability to establish credibility and trust with clients, internal business partners, product specialists, and credit officers, and to partner with them effectively.
  • Ability to foster relationships and confidently interact with origination teams and other internal stakeholders.
  • Self-starting, result-driven, able to multi-task, with a risk-reward mindset and adaptability given the dynamic nature and timing of workflow.
  • Coaching and development ability towards junior colleagues.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, along with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate good time management and clarity in thinking when dealing with multiple work streams in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience in roles with relevant skills for this position

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Previous experience reviewing and commenting on loan documentation and core corporate derivative documentation.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel with ability to navigate financial models, as well as Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook.
