As a Financial Controller in the Financial Control function, you ensure the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of the firm’s books and records across the general ledger and upstream operating systems. You execute and govern balance sheet reconciliation and substantiation in line with firmwide GLRS standards while maintaining strong P&L and balance sheet controls. You analyze and resolve material variances across complex processing environments and partner with business and risk stakeholders to drive sustainable solutions.
Job Responsibilities
- Ensure accuracy and validity of line of business general ledger accounts in accordance with GLRS standards.
- Perform balance sheet reconciliations, certifications, and substantiation to support ledger integrity.
- Govern GLRS reporting activities and maintain strong reconciliation oversight and documentation.
- Maintain inter-entity control and governance to support legal entity accuracy and transparency.
- Execute month-end close activities and coordinate with upstream teams to deliver timely results.
- Analyze material variances between the general ledger and upstream systems and communicate impacts.
- Resolve breaks and exceptions by driving root-cause analysis and sustainable remediation.
- Maintain P&L and balance sheet controls owned by Financial Control and identify control gaps.
- Implement efficiency opportunities across reconciliations, controls, and operating processes.
- Record manual accounting entries and support bookings to the general ledger, as required.
- Partner cross-functionally with business, risk, treasury, and corporate finance teams to deliver solutions.
Required Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
- Bring 6+ years of relevant experience in financial control, accounting, or reporting roles.
- Demonstrate general ledger experience, including reconciliations and month-end close responsibilities.
- Apply strong understanding of securities and derivatives products.
- Analyze complex processing flows and system-to-ledger interrelationships with strong attention to detail.
- Communicate effectively with business and risk managers and influence partners to resolve issues.
- Utilize advanced desktop, spreadsheet, and database skills to support analysis and reporting.

- Leverage experience building partnerships across product-aligned businesses and corporate finance, treasury, and accounting groups.
- Demonstrate strong organizational skills and structured problem-solving in a fast-changing environment.
- Multitask effectively while managing competing priorities and tight close timelines.
- Challenge control design and execution critically to identify and remediate control issues.
- Apply experience with operating system controls and infrastructure control frameworks.
- Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills for senior stakeholder updates.
- Maintain existing relationships or networks within the firm’s Investment Banking community.
