This is an opportunity to build and scale a digital retail investing platform from the ground up in one of Europe’s most significant markets. You will play a pivotal leadership role, shaping strategy, commercial outcomes, and regulatory engagement. Working in a complex and highly regulated environment, you will influence how customers invest while setting high standards for operational excellence. This role offers meaningful impact, visibility, and ownership at scale.

As a Commercial Director in Personal Investing, you will lead the build‑out, launch, and scaling of a digital retail investments distribution platform for the German market. You will provide senior local leadership, owning strategy, commercial performance, regulatory engagement, and day‑to‑day execution. You will work closely with partners across product, operations, and control functions to deliver strong customer outcomes in a regulated environment.

Job Responsibilities

  • Define and deliver the Germany strategy for a digital retail investments distribution platform—from market entry and launch through sustained growth and scale.

  • Serve as the senior Germany representative for JPMorganChase Personal Investing, providing visible local leadership and acting as a trusted counterpart to internal and external stakeholders across Germany and Europe.

  • Own commercial performance including customer acquisition, Assets under Management (AuM), trading activity, revenue, cost discipline, and profitability; establish pricing, unit economics, and monetisation strategy, grounded in strong understanding of brokerage/wealth P&L drivers.

  • Drive scalable growth in the mass affluent segment, balancing rapid acquisition with service quality, operational resilience, and disciplined execution.

  • Partner with product, operations, and functional leaders across JPMorganChase Personal Investing to deliver a best-in-market customer experience, shaping product and service roadmaps to reflect local market needs and regulatory expectations.

  • Champion a digital-first operating model, building a highly digitised customer lifecycle and prioritising automation and robust controls consistent with BaFin expectations on outsourcing, data governance, and IT risk management.

  • Partner with Chase banking leadership, to deliver a best-in-class banking and investments ecosystem, ensuring shared priorities, data-led decision-making, and coordinated delivery across products and journeys.

  • Lead governance and reporting for senior management and board-level audiences, providing clear updates on strategy, performance, risk, regulatory matters, and financial outcomes.

  • Build strong alignment across Lines of Business and functions (e.g., Custody Services, Asset Management, Global Markets, Legal, Compliance, Risk, Finance), ensuring coordinated delivery and clear accountability in a matrix environment.

  • Lead the licensing process (WpIG / KWG) with BaFin and Deutsche Bundesbank, coordinating end-to-end submission readiness including documentation, policies, procedures, and operating model design.

  • Represent the firm in regulatory engagements, establishing credibility and maintaining effective relationships with German and European regulators and embed regulatory requirements into product and processes, ensuring consistent compliance with key obligations (including MiFID II, WpHG, GwG) and fostering a culture of transparency, control, and execution discipline.

Required Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills

  • Extensive experience in banking, brokerage, or wealth management within a regulated financial institution, with senior-level accountability and leadership impact.

  • Proven track record launching, scaling, or transforming regulated retail investment platforms, ideally in Germany or another EU jurisdiction.

  • Deep knowledge of German and EU regulatory frameworks relevant to retail investing and platform launches, including WpIG, KWG, MiFID II, WpHG, GwG, eIDAS (and related supervisory expectations).

  • Strong commercial acumen, including P&L ownership, pricing and unit economics, and delivery of profitable growth.

  • Operational excellence mindset, with demonstrated ability to build scalable operating models with robust risk and control foundations.

  • Fluency in German and English (written and spoken).

Preferred qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills

  • Experience leading or materially supporting a licensing application and/or serving as a key function holder is strongly preferred.
