As a member of the Korea Legal team, you will advise on all legal issues and matters relating to JPMorgan's commercial and investment banking businesses in Korea ("JPMorgan Korea"). This position is based in Seoul and reports to the Assistant General Counsel, Executive Director, Korea Legal. JPMorgan Korea comprises a bank branch carrying on banking business and a securities branch carrying on securities business.

Job Responsibilities

  • Advise on all legal issues and matters relating to JPMorgan Korea’s commercial and investment banking businesses in Korea, covering both the bank branch and securities branch operations
  • Provide onshore legal support for JPMorgan Korea’s various business lines with a primary focus on investment banking, including equity and debt capital markets transactions, M&A advisory, and corporate lending
  • Advise on a broad range of banking and financial regulatory matters applicable to JPMorgan Korea's bank branch and securities branch operations
  • Prepare and negotiate client contracts and related documentation, including underwriting agreements, lending agreements, engagement letters, non-disclosure agreements, and account terms and conditions
  • Collaborate closely with JPMorgan Korea's management, business, compliance, and other functions, as well as various offshore line-of-business legal teams
  • Support onshore compliance teams in connection with regulatory interactions and internal reviews or investigations
  • Partner with the regional office of the secretary and local management teams to establish and administer corporate governance for JPMorgan Korea
  • Assist in the development, implementation, monitoring, and maintenance of JPMorgan Korea's corporate planning, policy, and public relations initiatives
  • Provide legal analysis and oversight in connection with the implementation of global and US regulations on JPMorgan Korea

Required Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills

  • Minimum 4 years of post-qualification experience (PQE) in the financial services industry, at a top-tier law firm or in an equivalent in-house legal role
  • Member in good standing of the Korean, US, or UK bar, or equivalent jurisdiction
  • Strong working knowledge of M&A, equity and debt capital markets, and commercial lending, as well as applicable Korean financial regulations
  • Proficient to fluent in both English and Korean, written and verbal
  • Strong drafting and negotiation skills with respect to legal contracts and transaction documentation
  • Ability to work independently, manage complex projects, and multitask in a fast-paced and complex business environment
  • Ability to understand business needs and effectively partner with various stakeholders to develop practical solutions

Preferred Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills

  • Experience working at or advising an international bank or securities firm with cross-border investment banking transactions
  • Familiarity with global and US regulatory frameworks and their application to Korean financial institutions
  • Pragmatic judgment in balancing legal, regulatory, operational, and reputational risks in a dynamic business environment
  • Excellent organizational and project management abilities with experience supporting multiple business lines simultaneously
