The Global Commodities Power Trading Team helps clients manage risk and access liquidity. In this role, you’ll help build a durable U.S. power trading franchise, combining strong market judgment, rigorous risk governance, and clear leadership to deliver repeatable performance.
Job summary:
As an Executive Director on the Global Commodities team, you will lead the build-out and day-to-day management of a U.S. power trading portfolio, setting the operating cadence for the franchise, identifying and monetizing opportunities, and partnering closely with Sales, Structuring, Technology and QR. You’ll translate fundamentals and market structure into actionable positioning, communicate clearly with stakeholders, and develop a high-performing team and platform.
Job responsibilities
- Build and scale a U.S. power trading franchise through expanded coverage, repeatable processes, and a durable revenue engine
- Size, understand, and manage portfolio risk with clear governance, limits, and escalation
- Drive the operating model (market engagement, portfolio construction, and performance management) and ensure disciplined monetization of opportunities
- Make pricing and risk decisions aligned to market dynamics, liquidity conditions, and competitive considerations
- Monitor fundamentals and market structure (supply/demand, congestion, outages, weather, transmission constraints, regulatory and rule changes) and convert insights into positioning
- Partner with Sales/Structuring to deliver client solutions and improve overall franchise performance
- Lead, hire, coach, and develop traders/analysts; establish an operating cadence that supports a resilient platform
Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills
- Proven ability to build and grow a trading business/franchise with sustained revenue generation and strong risk discipline
- Deep expertise in U.S. power markets, including market structure, key pricing drivers, and regional dynamics
- Significant experience trading and risk-managing U.S. power products
- Demonstrated ability to perform under pressure with high initiative, drive, and ownership
- Strong judgment and governance mindset with clear, transparent escalation practices
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to distill complex views into actionable messaging
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) required
Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills
- Experience expanding into new instruments/venues/tenors or launching new products to grow market participation
- Demonstrated track record partnering with Technology and quantitative teams to enhance analytics, tooling, and reporting
- Strong people leadership experience building high-performing, inclusive teams across functions
- Familiarity navigating regulatory and market rule changes impacting U.S. power trading
