Overview
Kimley-Horn is seeking an early-career Electrical Engineer to support power system studies for utility-scale renewable energy, substations, and emerging data center projects, joining our growing Power Delivery team in Denver, Colorado. This role emphasizes analytical modeling, system performance evaluation, and technical support across multidisciplinary teams.
The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with power system analysis tools and a strong foundation in steady-state studies, with interest in expanding into grounding, harmonics, and transient analysis.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain models in ETAP and CYMCAP
- Perform power system studies including:
- Load flow analysis
- Short circuit analysis
- Arc flash and protection coordination support
- Thermal ampacity analysis
- Support grounding and safety studies using tools such as WinIGS (preferred)
- Prepare technical reports, study summaries, and supporting documentation for clients and internal teams
- Coordinate with engineers across disciplines to support integrated project delivery
- Assist in data collection, model validation, and quality assurance of study results
Qualifications
- 1+ years of experience in Electrical Engineering with a focus on power systems or related discipline
- Engineer in Training (EIT) License (or ability to obtain within 12 months)
- Bachelors in Electrical Engineering or related degree
- Familiarity with power system fundamentals
- Experience with ETAP or similar tools (e.g., SKM, Easy Power)
- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills
- Strong sense of urgency and self-initiative to meet client deadlines
- Detail-oriented with an ability to contribute to a positive work environment
- Ability to work independently and as a team
Salary Range:
- $85,000 - $101,000
- Eligible for Performance Based Bonus Compensation
