Group/Division

The Office of the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) plays a critical role in developing advanced long-range technology in collaboration with product divisions and strategic marketing, working on future technology like light sources, lasers, and sensors. We are engaged in the research and development process, and once the technology is mature, we partner with product engineering groups who then build products based on the technology we’ve developed. The Office of the CTO also provides technical input into KLA’s strategic planning process, program reviews and Product Life Cycle (PLC) phases. We provide our broad technology expertise and cross-division experience to ensure we leverage the collective knowledge within our company.

Job Description

Responsibilities:

  • Design of mechanical structures, modules and fixtures to support advanced laser and optics system.

  • Responsible for the complete design process, including:

    • Driving requirements specification

    • Feasibility studies

    • Conceptual and detailed design, detailed drawings, using 3D solid modeling (ProE/Creo/Solidworks)

    • Conducting analysis in structural, flow, thermal

    • Detailed tolerance stack-up analysis

    • Hold design reviews throughout design process

    • Procurement of prototype parts

    • Prototype assembly, testing and troubleshooting

    • Create assembly and test procedures. Documentation release.

  • These tasks will require working with other engineering groups such as research scientists, optics engineers, laser systems engineers and laser users to ensure flawless integration and test at the subsystem and system level.

  • Work closely with and manage suppliers to ensure all design requirements are specified and achieved.

  • Operational and non-operational environmental and transportation testing including thermal, vibration, and shock.

  • Address and resolve product issues through the product phases.

Design challenges may include:

  • Design for high precision: require to learn new knowledges in optics engineering for better understanding in high precision mech design work, training will be provided.

  • Design for robustness: vibration control and thermal management.

  • Design for cleanliness: photo contamination control, purge flow analysis.

Requirements:

  • Doctorate in mechanical engineering, with at least 3 years of work experience.

  • Solid understanding in mechanical engineering fundamentals, including design principles, drawing specifications, machine elements, materials, and fabrication methods.

  • R&D experience in mechanical precision engineering design.

  • Hands-on experience in prototype builds, excellence in problem-solving.

  • Passion in mechanical R&D work and innovation. Continuous learning mindset towards new technology. Great team player.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Doctorate (Academic) in mechanical engineering or related with at least 3 years of experience.
