Group/Division

With over 40 years of semiconductor process control experience, chipmakers around the globe rely on KLA to ensure that their fabs ramp next-generation devices to volume production quickly and cost-effectively. Enabling the movement towards advanced chip design, KLA's Global Products Group (GPG), which is responsible for creating all of KLA’s metrology and inspection products, is looking for the best and the brightest research scientist, software engineers, application development engineers, and senior product technology process engineers. The Surfscan group includes a team of engineers, technology development, apps engineers and product marketing focused on technology that enables wafer, IC and equipment manufacturers to develop, qualify and monitor their process tools. Defects and process non-uniformities detected on Surfscan equipment allow for early identification of yield excursions. The flagship Surfscan products include the SPx platforms for wafer surface quality and wafer defect inspection tools and systems for inspection of polished wafers, epi wafers and engineered substrates during the wafer fabrication process.

Job Description/Preferred Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop precision opto-mechanical systems, ensuring alignment with project specifications.
  • Lead the integration of optical and mechanical components, conducting thorough testing to ensure performance meets quality standards.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including optical and system engineers to define requirements, contribute to system architecture, and troubleshoot complex technical issues.
  • Utilize advanced engineering software for 3D modeling, thermal, stress and flow simulation to optimize designs and identify potential improvements.
  • Conduct feasibility studies, cost and schedule analysis. Manage and coordinate prototype fabrication, testing, and validation activities, ensuring adherence to project timelines.
  • Document design processes, specifications, and test results for internal reference and external communication. Generate manufacturing documents for quantity production by a third party.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and advancements, integrating relevant innovations into opto-mechanical designs.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in designing and optimizing opto-mechanical systems, with a focus on precision and reliability.
  • Proficiency in CAD software for 3D modeling and simulation.
  • Strong understanding of optical principles and their integration with mechanical systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work in a collaborative, cross-functional environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes, and testing methodologies relevant to opto-mechanical engineering.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and best practices in optical and mechanical design.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to delivering high-quality work within established timelines.

Minimum Qualifications

Doctorate (Academic) Degree and 0 experience; Master's Level Degree and related work experience of 3 years; Bachelor's Level Degree and related work experience of 5 years
