Group/Division

With over 40 years of semiconductor process control experience, chipmakers around the globe rely on KLA to ensure that their fabs ramp next-generation devices to volume production quickly and cost-effectively. Enabling the movement towards advanced chip design, KLA's Global Products Group (GPG), which is responsible for creating all of KLA’s metrology and inspection products, is looking for the best and the brightest research scientist, software engineers, application development engineers, and senior product technology process engineers. Central Engineering is KLA's largest engineering organization comprised of 9 Centers-of-Excellence (CoE) in various disciplines applied across all product groups in the company. These CoE include Handling & Automation, Precision Motion Control, Sensors & Image Acquisition, Platform Design, and Packaging Engineering, among others. Talent includes over 500 engineers across global centers in Israel, China, India, and the US. Each CoE contributes not just talent and deliverables per discipline toward product programs, but also subject matter expertise, best practices, roadmaps, specialized facilities, apparatus, models, and analytics. These differentiate KLA not only in WHAT we do, but also in HOW we do it.

Job Description/Preferred Qualifications

What you will be doing:

The software manager position we are trying to fill will be functionally responsible for many different areas of software including machine control software, high-performance compute software and customer facing software. Although this is a manager position, hands on approach to software development is encouraged. One must have deep roots and intuitions on various topics in software engineering at scale. You are encouraged to have consistent track record of building and leading software teams! Knowledge doing software for hardware products (non-compute mechanical hardware) is a huge plus.
A software manager in this position will have the following responsibilities:
  • Responsible for the design, development, testing and roll out of software solutions that improve the capabilities of the KLA inspection machines.
  • Strong communication skills to work with several hardware and software interdisciplinary teams to understand the system/marketing requirements and to guide teams on software requirements and design.
  • Develop an understanding of how the system works and be able to provide software solutions for critical customer gaps or issues.
  • Evaluate concepts and designs for the next generation systems by leading all aspects of trade-off studies, identifying risk items and suggest mitigation plans.
  • Engage geographically distributed team to develop and deliver software solutions. Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where communication and collaboration with a large multi-disciplinary team is a significant part of the job.

What we want to see:
  • A Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • Previous experience as a Software Engineer or Software Developer working on machine control (non-compute hardware), automation, or instrumentation.
  • Excellent software engineering skills, including deep conceptual and applied knowledge of OOP, design patterns, data structures, distributed systems, multi-threaded and multi-process programming.
  • Experience working with external or internal customers in delivering projects.
  • Experience aligning with interdisciplinary set of team members including Marketing and Programs.
  • Experience growing and developing impactful teams.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree with 18 years of experience in SW engineering function, including 5+ years of managerial experience.
  • Masters degree with 15 years of experience in SW engineering function, including 5+ years of managerial experience.
  • PhD with 12 years of experience in SW engineering function, including 5+ years of managerial experience.
