Group/Division

SPTS wafer processing solutions include market-leading silicon etch, dielectric etch, dry-release etch, PVD, PECVD and molecular vapor deposition (MVD®), available with a range of wafer-handling options applicable to R&D, pilot production, or volume production environments. SPTS is headquartered and has its main manufacturing facility in Newport, UK, with additional manufacturing in Allentown, Pennsylvania. SPTS operates across 19 countries in Europe, North America and Asia-Pacific, and offers comprehensive service and spare parts support through a worldwide network of service centers and qualified local agents.

Job Description

Senior Maintenance Engineer (Shift)

This role represents an excellent opportunity for an Engineer who is looking to establish a career in a fast growing, award-winning, global semiconductor company with a clearly defined career development path.

Joining the multi-disciplined team, you will provide hardware maintenance support working on a variety of process module types to ensure we continue to achieve our exacting standards. This role will involve the maintenance and preparation of Lab equipment for the running of Customer Samples and R&D projects for our Deposition Business Unit.

This role will require continual shift work alternating between early (6am – 2pm) and late shift (1.30pm – 9.30pm on a weekly basis) with some requirement for occasional weekend work and be based in our Manufacturing Headquarters in Newport, South Wales

Your day to day responsibilities will include:

Demo Lab Equipment

  • Maintaining the Demo lab equipment and configuring the modules to the requested Customer demo configuration.
  • Planning and organising necessary parts to perform the required configuration
  • Supporting R&D Engineers for new part introductions
  • Troubleshooting activities on a priority basis
  • Assisting in the installation and start-up of new equipment in the demo lab
  • Provide Breathing Apparatus (BA) / Emergency Response Team (ERT) support

Safety

  • Follow safe operating practices in the clean room
  • Being part of the Technician team, sharing responsibility for planning and executing safe work plans on complex systems containing a variety of energy sources and toxic gases, together with the relevant risk assessments as required.
  • Contributing to the continual improvement of our already excellent safety record

Documentation

  • Record Keeping: Maintaining documentation to track the progress of jobs (enabling efficient pass over between shifts) and track tool Preventative Maintenance.
  • Follow service and safety bulletins, procedures, reports and engineering drawings.

  • Has HNC or above level qualification in Electrical/Mechanical engineering or similar
  • Is a multi-skilled Engineer with a good understanding of Electronic/Electrical/Mechanical systems
  • Is hands on; capable of diagnosing and rectifying complex faults.
  • Has experience of toxic and non-toxic gas line interventions (not essential)
  • Has experience of gas systems
  • Has demonstrated safe working practices due to working in an exacting environment where safe working practices are critical
  • Is experienced in following operating practices and procedures
  • Is willing to undertake Breathing Apparatus training and be part of the site Emergency Response Team
  • Can work to tight deadlines in a highly regulated industry
  • Knowledge of similar semiconductor equipment would be an advantage, as would prior experience of electronic fault finding and high Vacuum systems.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple activities working to a task priority list.
  • Working independently and as part of a team (task dependent).
  • Technical oversight of more junior engineers.
