TEAM OVERVIEW

KKR’s Asia Pacific Private Equity (APACPE) team partners with management teams, entrepreneurs, and investors to identify investment opportunities and produce attractive long-term results. Our approach is to work as partners with the management of our portfolio companies and remain deeply involved in the operations of our businesses, such as provides operational improvements, market consolidation, enhanced innovation, and creative structuring to unlock new growth vectors and build stronger companies for our partners. The team also prioritizes stakeholder engagement through extensive research and experience to proactively collaborate with stakeholders across a range of businesses and further build and maintain relationships. The APACPE team is also focused on constructing a diversified portfolio with companies with strong fundamentals through new strategies and quality top-talent that can help drive returns. In this way, we help build globally competitive franchises, many of which have increased employment, innovation, and research and development during our ownership.

The APAC PE Team is focused across 6 key regional markets: Japan, Korea, Greater China, Australia & New Zealand, South East Asia and India.

POSITION SUMMARY

A Private Equity Analyst in Japan will be integrally involved with all aspects of the private equity investment process, including sourcing and evaluating potential investments; performing due diligence; handling negotiations; structuring and closing transactions; monitoring and implementing improvements at portfolio companies and exiting investments as well as interacting with the firm’s investors, clients and limited partners.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Investment & Exit: Manage day-to-day of transaction (both entry/investment and exit) with due diligence (business/financial/tax/legal etc.) and financial modeling with a team from Private Equity, KKR Capital Markets, and KKR Capstone
  • Preparation of Memos: Prepare internal and external memos such as IC memo and presentations for LPs (Limited Partners) with a team from Private Equity, KKR Capital Markets, and KKR Capstone
  • Sourcing: Support sourcing activities by senior members from Private Equity. Analysts typically work directly with Directors or above on sourcing assignments
  • Portfolio Management/Value Creation: Support implementation of operational initiatives within portfolio companies with a team from Private Equity and KKR Capstone. Also, analysts typically lead monitoring and reporting of portfolio companies’ financial and business performance by closing coordinating with members of each portfolio company

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Background: 2-4 years of professional experience in a lead investment bank and/or private equity firm and strong academic record from top undergraduate programs
  • Required Skills:
    • Superior numerical & analytical skills as well as financial modeling skills
    • Understanding of business due diligence & analysis
    • Fluency in Japanese and English in both written and oral communications
  • Personality:
    • Strong interest for investing
    • Strong work ethic, collaborate approach in team setting, commitment to delivering excellence
    • High integrity

CRITICAL COMPETENCIES FOR SUCCESS

  • Experience analyzing industry data and the investment cycle for Portfolio Companies to provide insights to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Keen attention to detail and ability to ensure accuracy to manage the due diligence process, provide in-depth financial modeling, monitor and report on the portfolio company performance, etc.
  • Outstanding organization and multi-tasking skills to handle multiple workloads with competing deadlines.
  • Team-player that enjoys working in a collaborative and collegial environment and willing to pitch in on varying tasks.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills: able to communicate with individuals across all levels in a clear, concise, and professional manner
