Employee Relations Specialist
KPMG
Job Description
Our Employee Relations team, embedded within our People & Inclusion division, plays a critical role in shaping a respectful and values‑driven workplace for our people that is aligned with workplace laws and best practice. Every day, our work reflects KPMG’s values of Integrity, Excellence, Courage, Together and For Better.
What sets us apart
At KPMG, we understand that Employee Relations is complex and deeply human work.
You’ll join a close‑knit team of experienced Employee Relations professionals who value collaboration, sound judgement, and respect for each other’s expertise. Our approach is thoughtful and values based. We focus on quality processes and outcomes, and we create the space to do the work well.
We’re supported by engaged leaders who understand the value of strong Employee Relations and prioritise wellbeing, sustainable workloads, and professional growth. Here, you’re trusted as a professional — encouraged to think critically, exercise discretion, and bring your full perspective to the work.
You’ll work in a flexible, hybrid environment with a team located across Australia. We welcome full time and part time applications for this role.
Your Opportunity
This is a high‑impact role where your expertise will directly influence the experience of our people across KPMG. As a trusted Employee Relations Specialist, you’ll work at the intersection of employment law, people and culture.
You’ll be instrumental in:
- Leading complex workplace investigations, including matters involving bullying, discrimination, harassment and sexual harassment.
- Providing timely, practical and risk‑based Employee Relations expert advice to our People & Inclusion team and the broader firm on conduct management, performance issues, grievances, employee entitlements and compliance with the Fair Work Act 2009 (Cth) and other employment legislation, including awards.
- Designing, improving and embedding Employee Relations policies and processes that are fit for purpose, legally compliant and aligned with KPMG’s values.
- Uplifting Employee Relations capability across the firm by delivering training and providing 1:1 coaching to People & Inclusion Business Partners.
- Contributing to employment law compliance projects, including managing initiatives that strengthen governance and best practice across KPMG.
- KPMG operates primarily under individual (not collective) employment agreements, with a small number of roles covered by modern awards. As an Employee Relations Specialist, you will play a key role in ensuring compliance with these arrangements and supporting consistent, fair application of employment conditions.
- Analysing Employee Relations data and trends, providing insights and recommendations that help shape proactive, people‑centred strategies.
How are you extraordinary?
- A legal background with hands‑on experience advising on employment law matters. (This could be experience working at a law firm, in house, in government or in another employment law capacity).
- Strong working knowledge of workplace and employment law, including the Fair Work Act 2009 (Cth), awards and other relevant legislation.
- A strong risk mindset, with the ability to identify and manage legal, wellbeing and reputational considerations.
- Experience (or solid exposure) in conducting workplace investigations, with exceptional attention to detail and a deep understanding of procedural fairness.
- A genuine commitment to fostering a fair, safe and inclusive workplace, where values and the Code of Conduct guide every decision.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to influence, advise and present with clarity and impact.
- Exceptional attention to detail and sound judgment.
- Strong stakeholder and relationship management capabilities.
- The ability to prioritise competing demands, manage multiple matters effectively and remain calm under pressure.
Even if you do not have all the background and experience set out above, we still encourage you to apply if you believe you have the capability to succeed in this role.
