Senior Claims Consultant - Strategic Claims Reviewer

KPMG

KPMG

Brisbane, QLD, Australia
Posted on Feb 27, 2026

Job Description

KPMG’s Insurance Claims and Workplace Health practice partners with personal injury insurers and schemes, selfinsured employers and organisations across Australia to improve claims performance, customer experience and recovery outcomes for injured people. Our work focuses on navigating complexity, strengthening capability and delivering practical, outcome driven solutions that make a measurable difference.

The opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Claims Professional based in Brisbane to support improved recovery and return to work outcomes for injured workers through targeted strategic claim reviews and strategy implementation.

This role is not an end-to-end claims management position. Instead, you will be responsible for establishing and undertaking structured strategic claim reviews across defined claim cohorts. Your focus will be on assessing claim management to date, identifying key risks, barriers and missed opportunities, and developing and implementing targeted strategies that actively influence positive claim outcomes.

You will work closely with claims teams and key stakeholders to embed recommended strategies, ensuring recovery and returntowork pathways are strengthened, decision-making is timely, and claims progress in line with best practice and legislative expectations. While you will not hold ongoing ownership of claims, your role is critical in shaping claim strategy and driving meaningful outcomes.

Please note that this is a 12‑month maximum‑term position, with the possibility of extension.

Key responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Establish and undertake strategic claims reviews across defined claim cohorts, focusing on recovery, return to work and delivering positive customer experiences.

  • Baseline the current claim management strategy and identify risks, gaps, barriers and opportunities to improve outcomes

  • Develop clear, practical claim strategies and work with stakeholders to support their implementation

  • Influence recovery and RTW outcomes without holding ongoing claim ownership

  • Provide high quality written and verbal commentary that translates evidence based analysis into clear recommendations, influencing claim strategy, performance and customer outcomes

  • Liaise with injured workers, employers, medical providers and rehabilitation specialists to support appropriate treatment and recovery pathways

  • Assess medical and rehabilitation information to determine suitable recovery strategies and escalation points

  • Maintain accurate, timely documentation and utilise claims management systems effectively

  • Deliver a high standard of customer service aligned to relevant service expectations

  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across claims and returntowork practices

Skills and experience

You will bring:

  • 2+ years’ experience in Workers Compensation, with strong recovery and returntowork expertise

  • Sound understanding of Queensland workers compensation legislation, policy and practice

  • Experience working with injured workers, employers and health professionals

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence outcomes through clear, evidence based recommendations

  • High attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast paced, performance driven environment

Qualifications

Desirable (but not essential):

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in a related discipline, such as allied health, mental health or occupational rehabilitation is desirable but not required

Eligibility requirements

  • Candidates must not have worked for WorkCover Queensland within the past three (3) years

  • Full working rights in Australia (no visa restrictions)

  • Ability to meet the hybrid attendance requirement in Brisbane
