Job Description

Our CFO Advisory practice sits within KPMG’s Financial Risk Advisory division and works closely with CFOs and senior finance leaders to address complex accounting, financial and regulatory challenges. We help organisations deliver compliant, commercial outcomes while strengthening finance capability, governance and decision‑making.

Our work spans accounting and regulatory advisory, finance function uplift, data and reporting improvement, and transaction‑related engagements. We are known for our practical, collaborative approach and our ability to work across interconnected services to deliver outcomes that matter.

The Brisbane Team

Our Brisbane CFO Advisory team is collaborative, high‑performing and growing. You’ll work closely with senior leaders locally while being part of a broader national practice. The Queensland market provides exposure to a diverse range of clients and industries, offering strong development opportunities and meaningful client impact early in your career.

The team are in office 3-4 days per week unless on client site. We enjoy heading out for a coffee and KPMG has several fantastic clubs that you can participate in (for socials, running, cycling, yoga and there is even a club for those that love tea).

What You’ll Do

As a Senior Consultant in CFO Advisory, you will work with some of Australia’s leading organisations to support the delivery of high-quality client engagements while building deep technical, commercial and advisory skills. You’ll work closely with senior team members, take ownership of key deliverables and gain exposure to senior client stakeholders.

This role is ideally suited to candidates making a first move from external audit or assurance, or those with experience in a finance function who are looking to broaden their advisory skillset and work on more complex, forward-looking problems.

You will have the opportunity to:

  • Support the delivery of complex advisory projects, including developing client‑ready deliverables, reports and presentations, and coordinating with internal and external stakeholders
  • Assist with the implementation of new financial and regulatory reporting requirements, including the design of governance, risk and control frameworks across end‑to‑end finance processes
  • Analyse financial and operational risks and support the design of controls as clients transform their businesses
  • Provide high‑quality technical accounting support and advice across multiple industries
  • Work in cross‑divisional teams on pre‑ and post‑deal engagements, supporting finance function set‑up and integration activities related to mergers and acquisitions
  • Perform data analysis to assess data quality, identify insights and support robust decision‑making using financial and analytical tools
  • Contribute to practice initiatives, including the development of innovative solutions, thought leadership and go‑to‑market materials

Skills and Experience

To be considered for this opportunity, your skills & experience could include:

  • Experience in audit, advisory or assurance within professional services, or relevant experience in an industry finance role
  • A developing understanding of the AASB framework and/or the Australian regulatory environment
  • Experience working effectively within teams and a willingness to coach and support junior colleagues
  • A strong foundation in accounting or finance, with a commercial and analytical mindset
  • Well‑developed written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, structured and professional client deliverables
  • Curiosity and an enquiring mindset, with a willingness to tackle new and emerging challenges and learn quickly
  • The ability to work collaboratively in teams, manage competing priorities and take ownership of your work

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Commerce or a related discipline
  • CA qualification (completed or currently undertaking)
