A Workstation Business Development Manager (BDM) is responsible for growing the market and sales pipeline for professional workstation solutions. Workstations are high-performance computers used in industries like CAD/CAE, architecture, media & entertainment, AI/ML, energy, and healthcare.
The BDM’s focus is on strategy, partnerships, and sales enablement rather than just direct selling.
Key Responsibilities:
Market Development
Identify target industries (engineering, design, AI, 3D animation, oil & gas, etc.).
Build go-to-market strategies to increase workstation adoption.
Track industry trends (e.g., AI workloads moving from GPU servers to desktop workstations).
Business Growth
Define revenue and unit growth targets for workstation lines.
Develop partner and channel programs to expand reach.
Work with distributors, VARs, and resellers to drive sales.
Customer Engagement
Meet enterprise and SMB customers, understand workflow needs.
Position workstation solutions (hardware + software + ISV certifications).
Run proof of concepts (POCs), demos, and benchmark tests.
Partnerships & ISVs
Build relationships with independent software vendors (ISVs) like Autodesk, Dassault Systèmes, Adobe, Siemens, etc.
Ensure workstation hardware is certified and optimized for these apps.
Develop joint marketing or solution bundles.
Sales Enablement
Train account managers and partners on workstation value proposition.
Provide tools (TCO calculators, ROI models, competitive battlecards).
Collaborate with marketing to run campaigns and events.
Reporting & Strategy
Provide forecasts and pipeline updates to management.
Analyze competitor offerings (Dell vs HP vs Lenovo vs custom integrators).
Adapt pricing and bundling strategies.
