Description and Requirements

About Our Team

We are looking for a Software Development Engineer to support the development of system-level software components across embedded devices. Working across Android, Linux, and RTOS-based operating systems you will ensure that our integrated AI agent platform will perform reliably.

Location: Chicago, IL, Hybrid (3 days onsite and 2 days remote)

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the design, development, and integration of system‑level software for embedded consumer and consumer electronic devices (Motorola smartphones, Yoga Tablets, ThinkPads and Personal Computers).
  • Develop and enhance OS‑level components, middleware, and services running on Android, Linux, or RTOS platforms.
  • Work on low‑level software interactions involving device drivers, OS services, hardware interfaces, and middleware layers.
  • Debug complex, multi‑layer workflows spanning applications, system services, and underlying OS components.
  • Perform performance analysis and optimization related to stability, latency, memory usage, and system responsiveness.
  • Collaborate effectively with hardware, firmware, platform, and application teams to resolve system‑level issues.
  • Participate in design discussions, code reviews, and technical problem‑solving across functional boundaries.
  • Contribute to documentation and technical artifacts that support system integration and long‑term maintainability.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, Data Science, Business Analytics, or a related field.
  • 5+yrs of Experience developing system software, ideally a combination of Android, Linux and RTOS devices.
  • 5+yrs of Experience with C++.
  • 3+yrs of Experience with Rust.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 7+yrs of Experience developing system or embedded software on consumer electronic devices.
  • 7+yrs of Experience developing system software on Android, Linux, and RTOS devices.
  • 5+yrs of Experience with Rust working on systems with constrained resources.
  • Strong Experience communicating OS processes and limitations with common restraints: memory, threading, IPC, I/O.
  • Ability to document, communicate and debug system-level issues across software layers.
  • Strong verbal communication skills and ability to collaborate with Development, Product, Quality, and Ops teams.
  • Experience developing system or middleware components close to hardware a plus.
  • Familiarity with Android system internals a plus.

The base salary budgeted range for this position is $120-150k. Individuals may also be considered for bonus and/or commission. This position will be hybrid in our Chicago, IL site and is onsite 3 days per week.
