About the Role

Lenovo Infrastructure Solutions Group (ISG) – Product Assurance is seeking a Server Firmware Test Engineer to drive quality and validation for server firmware solutions. This role focuses on deep firmware validation (BMC / BIOS / UEFI), with strong emphasis on technical depth, problem-solving capability, and customer-facing engagement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead server firmware validation activities, including BMC, BIOS/UEFI, RAS, and Rack Manager domains
  • Design and review test plans, test cases, and validation strategies based on product specifications and design documentation
  • Execute and manage firmware validation cycles, ensuring coverage, quality, and timely delivery
  • Perform defect analysis, root cause investigation, and debugging, including failure reproduction and resolution tracking
  • Develop strong understanding of firmware-to-hardware interactions, and validate system-level behavior
  • Drive test automation initiatives to improve efficiency and coverage
  • Ensure high-quality deliverables aligned with customer expectations and product requirements
  • Engage directly with internal and external stakeholders, including customers, to communicate technical findings and resolutions

Core Competencies

1. Technical Depth & Problem Solving (Critical)

  • Strong understanding of server firmware architecture (BMC / BIOS / UEFI)
  • Ability to explain testing methodology, system behavior, and debugging approach
  • Hands-on experience with:
    • Firmware feature validation (e.g. sensors, Redfish/API, Web UI)
    • Error injection, failure handling, and recovery scenarios
    • Debugging tools and root-cause analysis
  • Demonstrates structured, analytical approach to complex technical problem-solving

2. Analytical Thinking & Debug Capability

  • Ability to go beyond execution and articulate the “why” behind validation scenarios
  • Strong troubleshooting mindset with proven experience in issue isolation and resolution
  • Comfortable handling deep technical discussions and scenarios

3. Stakeholder Management & Communication (Key Differentiator)

  • Ability to engage with technically strong customers and stakeholders
  • Communicates complex technical concepts in a clear and structured manner
  • Demonstrates strong collaboration skills across cross-functional teams
  • Acts as a credible technical representative in customer-facing situations

4. Adaptability & Team Fit

  • Strong learning agility and ability to adapt to new technologies and environments
  • Team-oriented mindset with effective communication and collaboration skills
  • Demonstrates professionalism, ownership, and accountability

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in server firmware validation/testing (BMC / BIOS / UEFI / RAS / Rack Manager)
  • Experience in:
    • Firmware validation and test case design
    • Debugging and troubleshooting complex issues
    • Test automation frameworks and implementation
  • Experience in firmware development (BIOS/BMC) is a strong advantage
  • Exposure to SIT (System Integration Testing) environments with firmware-related scope is a plus
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English

Preferred Profile (What We Value)

  • Candidates with deep firmware validation exposure, not just surface-level testing
  • SIT engineers with significant firmware-related scope (≥50%)
  • BIOS/BMC developers with strong system-level understanding interested in validation
  • Candidates who can demonstrate both technical depth AND customer-facing communication capability
