Description and Requirements
Detailed Technical Responsibilities
· Administer SAP HANA tenant databases, HANA services, backup/recovery, HSR monitoring, trace analysis and DB housekeeping.
· Analyze expensive statements, memory usage, blocked transactions, savepoints, log backup failures and service instability.
· Support system refresh, database copy, DB migration readiness, HANA client updates and DR validation activities.
· Execute approved DB parameter changes, backup schedule changes and controlled restarts under change governance.
· Prepare RCA inputs for DB incidents and recurring performance or availability issues.
Day-to-Day Technical Skills
· HANA SQL, HANA Cockpit performance views, HANA traces, backup catalog, HSR state checks and tenant DB operations.
· Working knowledge of SLES/RHEL for SAP, filesystem utilization, storage latency, multipath and OS-level dependencies.
· Understanding of HANA memory model, delta merge, log shipping, CPU waits and I/O performance indicators.
· Ability to correlate DB issues with SAP Basis, OS, storage, cloud and network layers.
· Scripting basics for evidence collection, housekeeping reports and monitoring automation.
SAP RISE AMS Delivery Expectations
· Mandatory working exposure to SAP RISE or SAP AMS managed services, including DEV, QAS, PRD and DR landscape support.
· Work within SAP, customer, hyperscaler and AMS shared-responsibility boundaries with clear ownership and escalation discipline.
· Support Incident, Service Request, Change, Problem, RCA, Knowledge and CDD activities using ITSM workflows.
· Participate in 24x7 support, shift handover, controlled maintenance windows, CAB approvals and audit-ready documentation.
· Coordinate across SAP Basis, HANA/DB, integration, infrastructure, security, network, customer business teams and SAP support.
Upgrade / Patch / Deployment / Configuration Exposure
· Support HANA revision upgrades, HANA client updates, HANA plugin/agent updates and post-revision performance checks.
· Perform DB pre-checks, backup validation, HSR sync confirmation and rollback readiness review before changes.
· Support SLES/RHEL OS patching and minor version upgrade validation for HANA workloads.
· Validate post-patch backup, replication, DB connectivity, critical jobs and application smoke tests.
· Participate in DR drills, failover/failback validation and post-DR DB consistency checks.
Monitoring, Management and ITSM Responsibilities
· Use ServiceNow or equivalent ITSM to maintain ticket categorization, priority, affected service/CI, business impact, evidence and closure notes.
· Support monitoring dashboards, health reports, SLA/OLA tracking, ticket ageing, backlog control and recurring alert review.
· Follow escalation matrix, major incident bridge protocol, change governance and problem management process.
· Maintain SOPs, runbooks, KB articles, handover notes and known-error database for repeated issues.
· Identify automation and shift-left opportunities for repeated operational tasks and standard requests.
Tools / Platforms
· HANA Cockpit, HANA Studio, SAP for Me, SAP Cloud ALM, SAP Focused Run, Linux CLI, SAP Notes, ServiceNow, cloud monitoring tools.
Expected Deliverables and KPIs
· DB availability, backup success, HSR health, DB incident MTTR, successful change execution, RCA quality and recurring issue reduction.
Preferred Certification / Evaluation Focus
· SAP HANA Technology Associate preferred. Interview focus: memory spike analysis, HSR lag, backup failure, HANA revision upgrade and SLES/RHEL patch validation.
