Description and Requirements

About the Role

Lenovo's Infrastructure Solutions Group (ISG) is transforming the way technology is delivered. This critical role sits within the Global Supply Chain (GSC) and focuses on end-to-end (E2E) manufacturing processes for our high-volume Cloud Service Provider (CSP) platforms, Servers, and Storage portfolio.

The CSP Test Development Engineer is a highly technical, hands-on position responsible for developing, validating, and sustaining the manufacturing test process to ensure the quality, reliability, and efficiency of our infrastructure products as they move through global manufacturing lines. This role requires a tactical readiness to resolve production issues and a strategic mindset focused on continuous process optimization.

As a CSP Test Development Engineer, you will also work with Hardware and Software Development Engineers and external partners to build custom processes as required. Tactically, you must be ready to react to any production issues as they arise and support worldwide manufacturing operations. Strategically, the expectation is that the successful candidate will continually seek ways to optimize the overall process to improve manufacturing efficiency.

This is a 100% Onsite position based in our facility in Whitsett, North Carolina.

Lenovo has manufacturing facilities in China, Hungary, Mexico, and Brazil, and travel to some of these sites is expected for this role.

Key Responsibilities

Test Development and Automation

  • Design, develop, write, and maintain test cases and automated scripts to test complex product hardware and firmware within the manufacturing environment.
  • Utilize scripting languages (primarily Python and Java) to automate test flows, data collection, and integration with the manufacturing test platform.
  • Implement and maintain code using version control systems (Git, CVS, SVN) to manage test development assets.
  • Employ Representational State Transfer Application Programming Interface (Rest API) for seamless integration of test tools and processes.

Manufacturing Process and Quality

  • Lead the development and deployment of new manufacturing test processes for New Product Introduction (NPI) to ensure high product quality and manufacturability.
  • Collaborate closely with Hardware and Software Development Engineers and external partners to define and build custom processes as required by CSP clients.
  • Provide technical expertise and hands-on debug support for server product hardware and firmware during production and ramp-up phases.

Optimization and Support

  • Tactically react to any production issues as they arise, performing root cause analysis and implementing immediate corrective actions to minimize line downtime.
  • Strategically identify opportunities to optimize and improve the overall manufacturing test process for maximum efficiency and reduced cycle time.
  • Support worldwide manufacturing operations with technical guidance and expertise, which will require periodic international travel to Lenovo's sites (China, Hungary, Mexico, Brazil).

Basic Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Computer Engineering, Computer Science), or a similar technical discipline.
  • Experience: Minimum 5 years of experience in a related technical role, ideally in manufacturing or server hardware product testing environments for computer systems or electronic devices.

Technical Skills:

  • Must have demonstrated experience in writing test cases for complex enterprise/server-class hardware.
  • Proficiency in scripting with Python (3.x preferred) and familiarity with Java.
  • Experience with code versioning and tracking systems (CVS, Git, SVN).
  • Solid understanding of server product hardware and firmware operation and debug.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Extensive experience with Rest API development/integration for test systems.
  • Direct experience with hardware manufacturing test process development and deployment in a high-volume setting.
  • Proven track record of improving manufacturing efficiency through process development and automation.
  • Familiarity with High Availability (HA) requirements and the specific needs of CSP/Hyperscaler environments.
  • Strong technical Writing skills for documentation and process definition.

This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship, including Optional Practical Training (OPT) or Curricular Practical Training (CPT). All applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States for any employer.
