Job Description


As a Packaging Engineer at Lutron, you will contribute to high-stakes projects from the start. Your efforts will help to maintain our market position as the world leader in smart lighting and shading systems.

Packaging Engineers at Lutron participate within a cross-functional team to conceptualize, design, and develop innovative, high-quality consumer products and services for commercial and residential use. 


There are a variety of technical areas throughout the product lifecycle that you could encounter from day one, such as:  

  • Use of packaging/design software such as ArtiosCAD, Adobe Illustrator, Tops, and CAPE
  • Practices and activities relating to sustainable packaging design such as lifecycle analysis, materials selection, etc.
  • Generating packaging solutions utilizing common materials like corrugate, paperboard, and plastics
  • Identification, specification, and usage of innovative, new sustainable materials 
  • Project management skills, such as moving a task from scope definition through concept, approvals, and launch
  • Industry standard (e. ISTA, ASTM) and project-specific testing protocols for packaging (drop, abuse, vibration, etc.)


  • Collaboration with product development teams to design and optimize complete packaging systems 
  • Developing comprehensive test plans in collaboration with quality team to ensure that designs meets/exceeds internal, regulatory, and customer specifications
  • Generating creative and innovative packaging designs that meet corporate aesthetic/brand standards
  • Troubleshooting packaging problems and providing creative, timely, cost-effective solutions
  • Implementing improvements related to packaging materials, labor, efficiency, transportation, quality, and warehousing
  • Optimizing inbound packaging supply chain in collaboration with the Procurement Engineering and Supplier Quality teams


  • Bachelor of Science in Packaging Science or Packaging Engineering
  • Minimum, cumulative GPA of 3.0 for each degree earned
  • 0-3 years' experience in a related field
  • Willingness to travel 15% of the time for inter-office collaboration, plant and supplier visits, etc.
