Macy’s, one of the largest retailers in the United States, is seeking a Specialist to join its Consumer Insights team. The Consumer Insights team is a consultative partner with key stakeholders in marketing, merchandising, business development, design, store operations, digital experience and innovation, working to bring the voice of consumers directly into decision-making.
As a Specialist within Consumer Insights, you’re an individual contributor managing quantitative and qualitative research projects ranging from brand and advertising research, merchandise testing, digital shopping behaviors, and strategic initiatives (e.g., customer acquisition, innovation in store formats, digital transformation) for the Macy’s brand, inclusive of Macy’s Backstage.

Essential Functions
- Project Management for Research Studies: Lead and independently manage the development and execution of internal research projects, including:
- Questionnaire development, survey programming, data processing design, data analysis report development for quantitative studies
- Manage vendor relationships in research scope, screening criteria, discussion guide and report development for qualitative studies
- Build and support vendor relationships for external research
- Consumer Insights Reporting: Lead and manage data analysis and synthesis of key insights, delivered through actionable and concise storytelling. Lead presentations of research findings with key stakeholders
- Impactful Collaboration: Develop relationships across various functions of Macy’s (in areas like strategy, merchandising, analytics, customer experience and user experience) to bring forth cohesive customer insights and proactively design research that has the potential to inspire new ways of thinking about customers
- 3-4 years of market research experience at a retailer, consumer brand, or supplier-side market research firm.
- BA / BS degree with outstanding academic track record.
- We encourage candidates with either a bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in a related field to apply.
- Excellent analytical, writing and communication skills.
- Natural self-starter who can switch gears as projects and timelines change.
- Experienced at executing/analyzing various types of quantitative methodologies (e.g. brand tracking, conjoint, segmentation, regression analysis, etc.).
- Experience in managing qualitative research (e.g. focus groups, ethnographies, etc.).
- Comfortable giving presentations to large audiences virtually/in-person.
- Comfortable building relationships with core team and more broadly within an organization.
- Passion for retail industry.
- Proficient in all Microsoft Office applications including strong PowerPoint and Excel skills.
- Experienced in using data analysis and/or survey programming tools efficiently and effectively for insights. Experience in any of the following tools is preferred but not required: Alida, Qualtrics, SPSS, Tableau.
