Job Overview
The Divisional Merchandise Manager (DMM) is a broad-based and strategic leadership role. The position requires the ability to develop the vision of a category and execution of the assortment plan by channel that aligns with the top line financial plan. The position requires an entrepreneurial mix of visionary strategy development, exceptional financial business acumen, strong understanding of merchandising, and the ability to lead a large team. The leader must have a progressive, customer centric approach all while holding teams accountable for delivering on sales and profit objectives without operating in the tactics of the day to day. A key requirement is to demonstrate curiosity in a broader and more complex business environment transcending our traditional competitive landscape to engage our customer.
The DMM will be known as a trusted, agile, collaborative, and results-oriented leader, business partner who can lead through influence and possesses professional maturity and industry credibility. A fundamental requirement is to be able to build trust with their teams and key collaborators. Candidates must be comfortable with quickly evaluating existing process, demonstrating agility to support change and must be able to collaborate across functions to gain alignment that leads to solid execution.
What You Will Do:
- Set a strategic category vision that aligns to company priorities and deliver financial targets.

- Serve as the face of Macy’s to the vendor community, clearly articulating the Polaris Strategy and negotiating optimal assortment and pricing for our customer.
- Create a vision that supports being a market share leader in their category.
- Demonstrate product acumen and focus with ability to curate and influence fashion assortment.
- Build a strategy and plan that supports a compelling core and curated assortment.
- Size growth opportunities, edit for clarity and ensure localization initiatives that differentiate Macy’s.

- Be the product category expert for their area of merchandise with a deep understanding of trend, competition, cost of goods, and vendor community.
- Lead effective negotiations that support the Macy’s strategy.
- Communicate with candor and value open debate to ensure the best ideas come to life.
- Set, lead, and communicate the strategic vision of location and channel-based strategies that support Macy's total growth.
- Align with Integrated Planning to ensure financial plans support national, localized, and online assortments with appropriate receipt and inventory levels.
- Build a Vision Strategy focusing on emerging customer needs, leveraging business trends, demographics, climate, customer data, assortment analytics, and field input.
- Identify white space opportunities, assortment optimization initiatives, and growth opportunities.
- Understand market share opportunities and the competitive landscape.
- Lead pre-season and in-season merchandising vision and strategy to create a seamless shopping experience for customers both in-store and online.
- Set a vision for long-range vendor plans and vendor edits.
- Improve overall customer satisfaction through Business Intelligence, analytics, and consumer insights.
- Guide Buyers in assortment optimization, pre-season and in-season product management, including product selection, Best Seller meetings, Styleouts, promotional strategies/pricing, and events to support marketing calendars.
- Maximize sales, margin, and turn through proper planning and execution of merchandise placement by channel and location.
- Guide channel needs, receipt flows, and replenishment strategies, while managing inventory levels and assortment productivity.
- Oversee recommended edits of doors, brands, and SKUs based on business performance.
- Provide direction for replenishment profiles, forecasts, and settings in partnership with the Analytics Team.
- Provide strategic input and guidance to ROF for department and vendor financial forecasts in-season.
- Guide pricing execution tied to the overall pricing strategy and financial plans.
- Collaborate with Marketing to set the divisional level online and offline marketing strategy and tailor monthly event and promotional plans for the department.
- Guide the coordination of vendor marketing and co-op requests.
- Review department-level merchandising strategies and zonograms, providing input to floor planning (e.g., brand shops, fixture needs, etc.); negotiate capital support.
