Job Overview

The Principal, Program Manager is responsible for planning, executing, and driving strategic programs to meet milestones and deliverables in support of Supply Chain Strategy. The role works cross-functionally with Supply Chain, Technology, Finance, and other departments to ensure alignment, collaboration, execution, and results. The ideal candidate demonstrates inquisitiveness, strategic thinking, strong financial acumen, and the ability to influence leaders inside and outside the Supply Chain organization while maintaining a global perspective of impacts to the entire enterprise. The Principal, Program Manager manages multiple large projects simultaneously and demonstrates solid problem-solving and decision-making skills. The role reports directly to the Senior Director, Supply Chain Strategy.

What You Will Do

  • Define desired outcomes, milestones, and timelines supporting Supply Chain strategies in collaboration with the executive sponsor and working team.
  • Oversee a portfolio of programs, including Macy’s Warehouse Management System (WMS), ensuring they are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget.
  • Establish and maintain program governance structures, including steering committees and project boards.
  • Perform continuous risk management to identify, assess, and mitigate risks associated with programs, and develop contingency plans to address potential issues.
  • Lead working meetings with key stakeholders, subject matter experts, and the working team to drive decision-making, develop creative solutions, and facilitate risk mitigation.
  • Track program performance using appropriate metrics, OKRs, and tools, and prepare and present regular status reports to senior leadership and stakeholders.
  • Develop partnerships with senior leadership (VPs, SVPs, and above) to understand network needs and present recommendations for change as well as regular project updates.
  • Interface with technology and business partners to clearly define business/system requirements, address open items, and ensure progress toward milestones.
  • Build, develop, and grow business relationships critical to the project across the organization.
  • Collaborate with other Program Managers to ensure coordination and knowledge sharing across supply chain program focuses.

Skills You Will Need

Strategic Thinking and Planning: Ability to define desired outcomes, milestones, and timelines that align with Supply Chain strategies, and to oversee a portfolio of programs ensuring timely, within-scope, and budget-compliant delivery.

Cross-functional Collaboration: Experience working with various departments such as Supply Chain, Technology, Finance, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment, collaboration, and execution of strategic programs.

Risk Management: Expertise in performing continuous risk management, identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks, and developing contingency plans to address potential issues.

Decision-making and Problem-solving: Solid problem-solving skills and the ability to make informed decisions based on statistical reports and data.

Leadership and Influence: Strong leadership profile with the ability to provide strategic direction, influence leaders inside and outside the Supply Chain organization, and lead a team of professionals.

Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization and prepare and present regular status reports to senior leadership and stakeholders.

Project Management: Ability to manage multiple large projects simultaneously, establish and maintain program governance structures, and track program performance using appropriate metrics, OKRs, and tools.

Relationship Building: Proven track record of building, developing, and growing business relationships across the organization, and collaborating with other Program Managers to ensure coordination and knowledge sharing.

Change Management: Strong change management skills to support the implementation of strategic initiatives and drive organizational transformation.

Financial Acumen: Strong financial acumen with the ability to develop insightful, value-added, and actionable analyses.

Independent Work: Ability to work independently and lead execution decisions based on data.

  • Candidates with a bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in a related field are encouraged to apply. 5+ years of program management experience. Supply Chain knowledge a plus.
  • Regularly required to sit, talk, hear; use hands/fingers to touch, handle, and feel. Occasionally required to move about the workplace and reach with hands and arms. Requires close vision.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule based on department and company needs.
  • Able to travel: 25%.
