Who You'll Work With

You will be part of McKinsey’s Client Service Risk (CSR) function. Client Service Risk’s mission is to enable McKinsey’s client impact and innovation, while managing risks to our clients, people and firm.
You will be based in one of our Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, New York, Phoenix, Summit, San Jose, Tampa, Toronto, or Washington DC offices and you will be a core member of the North America Client Service Risk team. In this role you will report into the Director of CSR, North America with primary responsibility for the Banking sector in the United States and Canada. You will work closely with CSR colleagues, Client Service Risk Committee members, regional sector and domain leaders, client service partners and colleagues in other professional functions, including Legal, Compliance and Communications.

What You'll Do

You will be responsible for the banking sector and responsible for providing strategic, integrative advice to the sector and regional leadership on how the firm can most effectively manage the multi-faceted, complex, emerging risks that arise by virtue of serving financial institutions in the United States and Canada.
You will identify, analyze, and resolve client service risk questions (e.g., questions involving new clients or specific engagements) and advise client-serving teams on risk mitigation steps. You will lead risk reviews of higher-risk and more complex cases, preparing briefings and recommendations for the Client Service Risk Committee (CSRC). You will work closely with senior leaders in banking to further develop and improve risk practices and protocols, and support efforts to increase awareness and training within the sector.
You will combine a deep risk-ownership mindset and have outstanding judgment, to manage complex and time-critical issues, and act as a trusted counselor to banking leaders and the CSRC. You will also need strong attention to detail, well-developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and sensitive stakeholder management.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree; JD or master’s degree helpful but not required
  • 8+ years’ professional experience in risk, compliance, legal and/or professional services, with a preference for experience in the banking industry
  • Demonstrated record of subject matter expertise in key subject areas (e.g., banking regulatory, organizational and staffing conflicts, regulatory risk, privacy, and reputational risk)
  • Excellent analytical skills; demonstrated ability to manage complex, sensitive and time-critical issues and to handle ambiguity
  • Demonstrated track record managing multiple priorities; strong project and time management skills
  • Strong personal presence and credibility, cultivates trust-based, counselor relationships with aptitude for consensus-building
  • Solutions-oriented and resilient; comfortable engaging in challenging discussions with senior colleagues, balancing robustness and persistence with diplomacy, flexibility and tact
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills, including ability to craft clear, concise, and pragmatic work product catered to specific internal audiences
  • A collaborative and cooperative mindset toward working with various stakeholders, including colleagues in CSR, other professional functions, and client-facing teams
