Who You'll Work With

You will join a group of communications professionals within the Firm’s Reputation and Engagement function. These colleagues help ensure that appropriate insights reach designated audiences, building awareness and engagement with McKinsey’s distinctive knowledge on a variety of topics. They shape the way the Firm connects with people—from clients to employees to alumni—strengthening institutional relationships, connections, and affiliations.
Through leadership across communications initiatives, you will shape the development and implementation of best-in-class global programs through events and publications aimed at clients, media and the general public.
You will be a member of the Japan office’s External Relations team, working with the office leadership and partners to oversee Japan’s Reputation and Engagement activities and collaborate with regional and global stakeholders as part of the Asia R&E community. The team reports to the Head of Communications based in Osaka, and consists of two specialists and one coordinator based in Tokyo

What You'll Do

You will support the Head of Communications to work with senior leaders and partners to strengthen external relationships in Japan.
You will proactively shape creative communications strategies to showcase McKinsey’s knowledge and assets, maintain the Firm’s reputation, and locally bring campaigns to life.
In terms of creating effective communications: you will drive high-quality writing and editing by leading/enabling the team to develop clear, structured and engaging written communications that rigorously follow conventions in both written English and Japanese.
With cell leaders, you will manage the Firm’s reputational risk by understanding and mapping strengths/weaknesses and handling opportunities/threats.
You will anticipate, identify, and respond to reputational risk issues to protect and enhance McKinsey's reputation by reviewing materials and proactively shaping the narrative.
In terms of project management and creation: you will guide the team to play the role of a thought-partner for the office leadership in developing external relations programs to advance visibility to clients, potential clients, and media.
You will drive meaningful impact for the team through execution, delivery and identifying and monitoring key performance indicators.
You will build a network of key editors, journalists, policymakers, senior executives, and academics, and focus on identifying and securing partnerships with relevant stakeholders.
You will ensure contact databases are managed to maximize dissemination and engagement.
As a people leader, you will support the Head of Communications to maintain a high-performing external relations team, including hiring, developing, coaching, and evaluating team members. It is expected that you will enable a collaborative and inclusive environment for the team while empowering individuals to be innovative and performance-driven.
