Working Student - Professional Development Intern
Job ID: 104808
Do you want to work on complex and pressing challenges—the kind that bring together curious, ambitious, and determined leaders who strive to become better every day? If this sounds like you, you’ve come to the right place.
Your Impact
As a Professional Development Working Student in the Consumer & Sciences Cluster, you will support our Professional Development team in shaping and delivering key initiatives for the growth and development of our European consultants.
The Professional Development team focuses on the growth, coaching, and career progression of our consultants at McKinsey. In this role, you will assist the team with a variety of operational and strategic initiatives that enhance the development, mentorship, and overall experience of our consultants and leaders.
The “Consumer & Sciences” cluster encompasses four distinct practices. The Consumer practice helps leading companies in consumer goods, retail, and consumer tech achieve sustainable growth through strategy, innovation, digital transformation, and operational excellence. The Growth, Marketing, and Sales (GM&S)practice supports clients across all industries in growing by transforming their marketing and sales capabilities, enabling companies to deliver substantial value today and tomorrow. The Social, Healthcare, and Public Entities (SHaPE) practice collaborates with governments, healthcare providers, payers, and social organizations to improve the lives of citizens and enhance public services. Life Sciences practice helps clients accelerate sustainable and inclusive growth in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical technology, and healthcare markets, providing end-to-end support from R&D to commercialization.
As part of this team, your responsibilities will span both day-to-day coordination and ownership of recurring processes, as well as project-related work linked to our people priorities. You will maintain and update key people data across our internal systems, ensuring accuracy and timely reporting for decision-making. This includes working with various firm systems, such as SAP and Tableau. You will contribute to the management of our “people lists” by gathering and verifying relevant information, liaising with stakeholders, and ensuring data consistency across the cluster.
You will support the creation and refinement of surveys, track survey response rates, and assist in communication approaches to drive engagement. This includes helping with survey analysis, such as pulling data, translating results into Excel, and identifying insights regarding consultant experience and satisfaction. You will take full ownership of our consultant newsletters, from gathering content and structuring key messages to designing banners, organizing updates, and ensuring polished and timely delivery. Additionally, you will help prepare presentations, reports, and visuals for leadership, transforming complex information into clear, compelling materials. You will also assist in advancing core people-agenda topics such as diversity, sponsorship, affiliation, and connectivity by providing coordination and hands-on assistance for high-impact initiatives.
You are expected to work approximately 20 hours per week during regular working hours, with flexibility to structure half or full working days based on your academic schedule and our team’s needs. In this role, you will gain broad exposure across the Consumer, GM&S, SHaPE, and Life Sciences practices while supporting projects that strengthen professional growth and talent development across the whole cluster. Your contributions will directly influence the experience and long-term success of our consultants. By driving operational excellence, supporting key people initiatives, and helping shape the projects that sit at the heart of our talent strategy, you will enable our teams to focus on what matters most: developing exceptional leaders who create meaningful impact for clients.
As a Student Worker, you will receive regular guidance and coaching to help you grow your capabilities. This is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience, deep exposure, and the professional foundation to accelerate your own career in an international environment. As part of the “Consumer & Sciences” Professional Development cluster team, you will work closely with the Professional Development teams of the four practices, comprising 10 very open-minded colleagues with a great passion for people topics. Our team is based across Germany, Spain, Poland, and Portugal, mainly collaborating remotely. We are looking for a Working Student to support us in Dusseldorf, Munich, and/or Lisbon. You will work both in the office and remotely. In addition to working with us as your core team, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with Professional Development teams and Student Workers from other industries and functional practices in Europe.
The role is to be filled as soon as possible.
