Transferee Tax Manager
Job ID: 105257
Do you want to work on complex and pressing challenges—the kind that bring together curious, ambitious, and determined leaders who strive to become better every day? If this sounds like you, you’ve come to the right place.
Your Impact
As the Transferee Tax Manager, you will play a pivotal role within McKinsey's global Tax Group, a team tasked with shaping and managing the firm's tax strategy and risk across the 70 countries where McKinsey operates. This group works in close partnership with various firm functions, including Payroll, Benefits, Accounting and Finance, Legal, and Human Resources, as well as external advisors, to ensure seamless integration and alignment.
In this role, you will provide strategic tax counsel, offering expert advice to firm leadership and individual transferees on complex tax matters. A key focus will be supporting McKinsey's high-value international mobility program by delivering proactive, executive-level tax guidance for strategic Partner relocations. This includes ensuring a comprehensive, global understanding of their tax positions to facilitate smooth transitions.
Your role also involves operationalizing mobility by clearly communicating the tax implications of international assignments to transferees and assisting them in navigating new tax systems. This requires close collaboration with other firm functions, such as Mobility, Benefits, Payroll, Accounting and Finance, Legal, and Human Resources, as well as external advisors. You will work hand-in-hand with sending and receiving offices to ensure seamless transitions and will contribute to the Tax Group's efforts to provide exceptional support to Partners and colleagues.
Additionally, you will engage in project and stakeholder management, partnering with Tax Directors and Senior Managers on Partner mobility transfers and global or regional mobility initiatives. You will also oversee day-to-day interactions with Non-Partner transferees and key stakeholders in local offices and firm functions, addressing the complexities of both Partner and Non-Partner mobility with precision and care.
Your Growth
You are someone who thrives in a high-performance environment, bringing a growth mindset and entrepreneurial spirit to tackle meaningful challenges that have a real impact.
In return for your drive, determination, and curiosity, we’ll provide the resources, mentorship, and opportunities to help you quickly broaden your expertise, grow into a well-rounded professional, and contribute to work that truly makes a difference.
When you join us, you will have:
- Continuous learning: Our learning and apprenticeship culture, backed by structured programs, is all about helping you grow while creating an environment where feedback is clear, actionable, and focused on your development. The real magic happens when you take the input from others to heart and embrace the fast-paced learning experience, owning your journey.

You’ll make a tangible impact by offering innovative ideas and practical solutions, all while upholding our unwavering commitment to ethics and integrity. We not only encourage diverse perspectives, but they are critical in driving us toward the best possible outcomes.
- Global community: With colleagues across 65+ countries and over 100 different nationalities, our firm’s diversity fuels creativity and helps us come up with the best solutions. Plus, you’ll have the opportunity to learn from exceptional colleagues with diverse backgrounds and experiences.
- Exceptional benefits: On top of a competitive salary (based on your location, experience, and skills), we provide a comprehensive benefits package to enable holistic well-being for you and your family.
Your qualifications and skills
- An excellent academic background, including a recognized tax or accounting qualification (ACA, ATT, CTA)
- 5+ years of experience in the management of mobility tax affairs of senior executives and related social security/payroll withholding issues, gained either in accounting practice or in-house in a large multinational corporation. Experience ideally includes managing employer compliance risk and efficiency improvements for employee tax, social security and other regulations
- Outstanding tax and problem-solving skills, with the ability to help design and implement workable tax operational processes
- Collaborate effectively with firm colleagues at all levels across various countries while independently managing multiple projects simultaneously
- Work effectively as part of a global team delivering excellent client service, managing details while maintaining a broad, international outlook
- Very strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical issues to various stakeholders
