At Medtronic you can begin a life-long career of exploration and innovation, while helping champion healthcare access and equity for all. You’ll lead with purpose, breaking down barriers to innovation in a more connected, compassionate world.

A Day in the Life

Medtronic is hiring a Principal IT Project Lead – Software Asset Management (“SAM”) will be responsible for subject matter expertise and operational excellence in the delivery of VMO’s software asset management function. This position is a part of Global IT’s Vendor Management Office, which provides governance and partnership across Medtronic’s strategic suppliers. The success of that team relies upon timely and accurate asset information – in support of governance (contracts, licensing, volumes, consumption, optimization) and partnership (on-prem vs. SaaS, roadmaps, strategies). Working alongside the software vendor management team, this role will manage and improve SAM processes, tools, and deliverables required for VMO’s success. This is an operational role, requiring expertise in software asset management, with adjacent growth opportunities in software vendor management.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

  • Subject matter expert and operational lead for the SAM processes, tools, and deliverables needed to support VMO and Global IT’s requirements for software asset information and insights.
  • Works collaboratively with the VMO team and internal customers to understand requirements and capabilities, so as to design and deliver what’s needed.
  • Has a continuous improvement mindset, and works to mature the SAM process month-over-month, including speed, quality, and impact of asset information.
  • Delivers SAM data and reporting which drives sustainable value creation and risk mitigation, coming from cost savings, cost avoidance, compliance, and better control of Medtronic’s on-prem, SaaS, and cloud IT environments.

Required Knowledge and Experience:

  • 12+ years of IT experience with a bachelor’s degree in Engineering, MCA, or MSc.
  • 12+ years working in some combination of IT operations, procurement, finance, or vendor management; experience working with software suppliers and software asset management systems in those departments.
  • 7+ years working specifically with IT software suppliers, with particular emphasis on large, multinational firms such as Microsoft, SAP, Oracle, Salesforce, etc.
  • 7+ years working specifically with software asset management tools, generating the data and reporting necessary for the business to operate and optimize its software environment, including contracts, licensing, compliance, and cost savings.
  • Experience working with global teams in a follow-the-sun model; effective working with people and teams across APAC, EMEA, and the Americas.

Nice to have:

  • Strong data and reporting skills – able to collect information and turn it into insights through recurring and self-service reporting for our internal customers.
  • Optimistic and solution focused – brings a positive outlook to the team, with a belief that we can always find a better, faster, cheaper way to deliver vs. the status quo.
