A Day in the Life
As a Calibration Engineer II at Medtronic, you will be responsible for executing and improving calibration processes to ensure accuracy, compliance, and efficiency across our manufacturing and laboratory environments. You will apply your metrology knowledge to support production, and facilities teams by ensuring that all Inspection, Measuring, and Test Equipment (IMTE) are calibrated, traceable, and compliant with internal standards and global regulations.
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.
Oversee the calibration process of a wide variety of equipment (mechanical, electrical, dimensional, temperature, pressure, etc.).
Review, analyze, and approve calibration certificates and reports from internal and external calibration providers.
Investigate and document Out of Tolerance (OOT) conditions, perform root cause analysis, and impact assessments.
Ensure all calibration activities comply with ISO 17025, FDA, ISO 13485, and Medtronic quality standards.
Manage and maintain the calibration database (e.g., IndySoft).
Develop and update calibration procedures, work instructions, and equipment specifications.
Initiate and execute change control activities related to calibration processes, procedures, intervals, and equipment specifications within a regulated industry.
Support internal and external audits related to calibration and metrology.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Production, Quality, Engineering, etc.) to support equipment qualification and validation.
Provide technical guidance and training to technicians and junior engineers as needed.
Lead or participate in continuous improvement initiatives, including Six Sigma, 5S, and Lean methodologies.
Required Knowledge and Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (e.g., Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, or related field).
Minimum 2 years of experience in calibration/metrology, preferably in a regulated industry - medical, pharmaceutical, aerospace
Strong knowledge of metrology principles and calibration standards.
Experience with calibration software/CMMS.
Familiarity with applicable standards: ISO 17025, ANSI/NCSL Z540.3, ISO 13485, FDA CFR Part 820.
Strong analytical, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
