The work we do supports the Medtronic Mission, and it matters.As the Sr. Director, Category Management-Packaging & Specialty Materials, you will manage, identify, implement, and align global sourcing strategies and global supplier network capabilities for Packaging, Specialty Materials, and Sterilization Services to achieve business objectives.
Through strategic leadership, you will facilitate Operation Networks discussions that will optimize the commodity in terms of quality, service, technology, market intelligence, risk, and total cost of ownership for Medtronic’s Packaging & Specialty Materials Tier 1 and Tier 2 spend of $900M.
Partnering closely with Medtronic’s Supply Management Operations Sourcing and Technical Sourcing organizations, you will work to leverage cross-operations network strategies at an enterprise level and continuously develop and improve leveraging opportunities by consolidating spend with key business partners, supporting Medtronic's broader interests.
In addition, you will leverage strategic sourcing processes across Medtronic by maximizing the company’s combined purchase power to reduce the overall cost of ownership and acquisition through strategic negotiations and optimize supplier relationship management opportunities through partnerships. You will develop a vision, provide leadership, and develop Packaging, Specialty Materials & Sterilization Services category team members that foster a cohesive, highly skilled, and effective team that delivers substantial value to the Global Supply Management organization and Medtronic.
As the Sr. Director, Category Management-Packaging & Specialty Materials, you will have overall responsibility for leading a cross-functional, cross-divisional category team in the development and implementation of strategies and goals for Packaging, Specialty Materials and Sterilization Services in support of business objectives for driving improved supplier relationship management, improved service, quality assurance, advancing technology with R&D / new product development teams, risk reduction/mitigation, and delivering lowest total cost of ownership. You will create and lead strategies that extend through the full supply chain, including primary and sub-tier component suppliers.
You will:
Establish the strategy for the respective $900M Packaging, Specialty Materials and Sterilization Services category spend.
Lead the development, execution, and implementation of sourcing and supply management strategies that align with Corporate, Operating Units, and Operation Platforms objectives.
Optimize performance through the appropriate organization model, institutionalize the strategic sourcing process, deploy enterprise-wide metrics and tools, and establish a high-performance culture.
Lead Supplier Cost Down deliverables to support Medtronic's Operation YoY cost improvement objectives.
Develop a supplier strategy that segments suppliers, assesses and governs performance, rationalizes the supply base, and drives continuous improvement.
Monitor supply contract maintenance and negotiations (CDAs, supply agreements, etc.), ensuring alignment with current business requirements.
Lead complex/critical negotiations with senior executives of suppliers (C-Suite)
Establish a foundation of excellence and competitive advantage through strong strategic supplier relationships.
Lead cross-network negotiations and supplier relationship management.
Partner with internal and external resources, drive commodity rationalization, simplification, and localization.
Lead efforts for category/supplier analysis, selection processes, make/buy, outsourcing, & business transitions.
Global market intelligence for the Packaging, Specialty Materials, and Sterilization Services categories provides insights to support supply optimization opportunities.
Develop talent and manage performance, including individual development planning, mentoring, succession planning, and creating a positive working environment that enables inclusion, high productivity, and employee engagement.
Must Have:
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Management, Finance, Engineering or related technical field in a large, multi-divisional corporation.
Minimum of 15 years of relevant progressive experience working in a world-class supply management organization with a focus on operational excellence with a minimum of 10+ years of managerial experience or an advanced degree with a minimum of 13 years of relevant progressive experience working in a world-class supply management organization with a focus on operational excellence with a minimum of 10+ years of managerial experience
Experience in a highly regulated industry, preferably medical, with global manufacturing
Global enterprise experience with a demonstrated track record of process and productivity improvement and successful results with developing and implementing change initiatives.
Nice to Have:
Global enterprise experience with a demonstrated process and productivity improvement track record and successful results in developing and implementing change initiatives in supplier assessment, audit & qualification.
Demonstrated knowledge of process improvement methodologies, including lean and Six Sigma. Green Belt or Black Belt in Lean/Six Sigma preferred
Experience developing and operationalizing strategy.
Ability to lead change in a complex environment.
Strong facilitation, influencing, organizing, and presentation/communication skills.
Proven ability to achieve results through building partnerships and influence skills.
Experience in forming and maintaining strategic alliances.
Experience in leading cross-functional commodity teams.
CPM, CPIM, and/or APICS certification
Knowledge of e-commerce initiatives
Strategic Planning, including outsourcing strategy development
Highly developed negotiation, project management, and change management with the ability to maneuver between supplier CEO’s and Ex Com
Contract Manufacturing knowledge
Best Cost Country sourcing experience
