A Day in the Life

• Technical degree in electricity, electromechanics, electronics, or equivalent.
• Minimum of 2 year of experience in building maintenance.
• Knowledge of industrial and/or residential cleaning, repair, and painting within the medical industry.
• Knowledge of ecological control procedures for the management and disposal of hazardous waste.
• Knowledge of electricity, HVAC, cooling towers, chillers, and compressors.
• Knowledge of RO systems, water pumps, and air conditioning.
• Knowledge of medical industry regulations.
• Knowledge of the 6S program.
• Teamwork and customer service.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

  • Performs repairs and maintenance in plant or office facilities, or on machines and equipment.
  • Typically performs work in one or more of the maintenance trades: carpentry, plumbing, painting, machine and equipment repair, electrical, sheet metal fabrication, and welding.
  • Conducts routine, periodic, or special inspections to determine repair and maintenance work necessary to prevent breakdowns of facilities, machinery, and equipment.
  • Uses hand and power tools.
  • Tests, inspects, troubleshoots, and repairs machines and equipment.
  • Uses blueprints, sketches, layouts, wiring diagrams, drawings, and specifications.

TECHNICIAN SUPPORT CAREER STREAM: Provides technical support in areas such as production, operations, maintenance, safety, testing, process improvement or product development. Uses schematics, diagrams, written and verbal descriptions or defined plans to perform testing and troubleshooting on electronic or mechanical components, equipment or systems. Gathers, maintains, formats, compiles, and manipulates technical data using established formulae and procedures, and performs detailed mathematical calculations. For higher levels, may suggest and/or make improvements to optimize work processes.
