A Day in the Life
This is an exciting opportunity for a Reimbursement Analyst or Senior Reimbursement Analyst based in Japan. The successful candidate will play a critical role in securing reimbursement for Medtronic’s innovative medical technologies in the Cardiac Rhythm Management (CRM), Coronary and Renal Denervation (CRDN), and Peripheral Vascular Health (PVH) businesses.The primary responsibility of this role is to lead reimbursement acquisition for newly launching medical devices by engaging in strategic negotiations with the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW). This work will be carried out in close collaboration with cross-functional teams including Regulatory Affairs (RA), Clinical, and Marketing.
The role also involves developing supporting evidence for reimbursement applications and working with global teams to address requirements under Japan’s cost-effectiveness evaluation system. Strong communication and collaboration skills are essential for success in this role.
This is an individual contributor position reporting to the Manager of Reimbursement Group 2, HCE&GA Japan. The role is based in Japan.
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:
- Lead reimbursement acquisition for newly launching medical devices by engaging in negotiations with the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW).
- Collaborate closely with internal teams including Regulatory Affairs (RA), Clinical, and Marketing to drive reimbursement strategy and execution.
- Develop clinical and economic evidence to support reimbursement applications.
- Coordinate with global teams to address requirements under Japan’s cost-effectiveness evaluation system.
- Build internal cross-functional and external partnerships with health policy and health economic experts and key opinion leaders (KOLs) to optimize market access strategies.
- Provide input to evidence development plans, including clinical study design and measurement of healthcare utilization and patient-reported outcomes/quality of life.
- Execute health economic projects including cost-effectiveness, cost-utility, cost-of-illness analyses, and budget impact analyses.
- Analyze and communicate clinical and economic evidence to target audiences, including publication of research findings.
- Act as an internal expert on reimbursement for CRM, CRDN, and PVH products in Japan, identifying risks and opportunities for business planning.
- Provide therapy-specific and general reimbursement/health economics education and training to key internal and external stakeholders.
Required Knowledge and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
- Experience in health economics, outcomes research, or medical device technology assessment with a proven track record of successful reimbursement applications in the Japanese healthcare environment.
- Knowledge of the Japanese reimbursement system and healthcare policy landscape.
- Experience in developing and applying health economic models is desirable.
- Experience in conducting outcomes research projects and developing value propositions is desirable.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English are desirable.
