A Day in the Life

A key member of the engineering team for New Ventures. In this exciting role as a R&D Engineer II, you will have responsibility for optimizing manufacturing processes and designing next generation implantable pumps.

This position is an exciting opportunity to work with Medtronic's Diabetes business. New Ventures:

New Ventures is focused on developing new diabetes systems, products and solutions in an inorganic, accelerator environment. Our team is unique in that we can adapt to a variety of business, patient and marketplace needs that span the entire spectrum of our product portfolio today and in the future. Our mission drives the need to be a highly skilled, flexible, extremely efficient, versatile, and agile in medical device product development for the benefit of our patients with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes in need of intensive insulin therapy.

In this exciting hands-on role, the R&D Manufacturing Engineer II will work closely with the Operations team, Regulatory, R&D, Suppliers and Quality in the development of processes necessary to optimize Diabetes related processes in a lean manufacturing environment. You will Identify and ensure implementation of opportunities to optimize/improve manufacturing processes including using engineering methods (e.g., SIX Sigma and LEAN methods), employing technical skills to re-design/design and ensure equipment, tools and fixtures are up to standards. Develop complex experiments and tests (including writing and executing protocols) to qualify and validate manufacturing processes; analyze results, make recommendations, and develop reports. Worked on MSA (Gage R&R).

This is an in-person full-time position and may require travel less than 10% of the time.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

  • Designs manufacturing processes, procedures and production layouts for assemblies, equipment installation, processing, machining and material handling.

  • Designs arrangement of machines within plant facilities to ensure most efficient and productive layout.

  • Designs sequence of operations and specifies procedures for the fabrication of tools and equipment and other functions that affect product performance.

  • Adapts machine or equipment design to factory and production conditions.

  • May incorporate inspection and test requirements into the production plan.

  • Inspects performance of machinery, equipment, and tools to verify their efficiency, and investigates and initiates corrective action of problems and deficiencies to ensure product quality.

  • Develops manufacturing processes that are applicable to statistical process control, and may develop those techniques.

  • Provides guidance to engineering regarding design concepts and specification requirements to best utilize equipment and manufacturing techniques.

  • Ensures processes and procedures are in compliance with regulations.

  • Provide support for on-market products through the end-of-life by maintaining Quality standards, ensuring process line uptime, and as other business needs dictate.

Minimum Requirements:
Requires a Bachelors degree and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with 0 years of experience.

Nice to Have

Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following skills, experiences, and certifications.

  • Experience in medical device manufacturing or manufacturing in highly regulated industry/environment.

  • Medtronic company experience.

  • Green Belt Certified- Black Belt Certified a plus.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Technical Science

  • PMP certified.

  • CAPA experience

  • Versed in Minitab

  • Demonstrated problem solving abilities and technical competency.

  • Prior knowledge and experience value stream mapping and lean manufacturing.

  • Prior knowledge and experience in AutoCAD/SolidWorks in drafting plant layouts, manufacturing fixtures, engineering drawings, automation etc.

  • Demonstrated communication skills in presenting information effectively and collaborating with different cross functional groups to achieve work objectives. #LI-DNI

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$80,000.00 - $120,000.00This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance, Health Savings Account, Healthcare Flexible Spending Account, Life insurance, Long-term disability leave, Dependent daycare spending account, Tuition assistance/reimbursement, and Simple Steps (global well-being program).
