Medtronic’s Cardiac Rhythm Management (CRM) Research & Development (R&D) organization is looking for a motivated engineer with a software background to work as a systems engineer on software systems within a broader medical device ecosystem.

The position responsibilities will focus on system development, integration, verification, and validation for CRM products. You will be responsible for partnering with systems engineer peers, marketing, product design teams (specifically software engineering teams), quality and program management to drive meaningful design inputs, a robust design, and ultimately an efficient and effective verification and validation strategy. Along the path to launch, you will become a technical contributor towards the success of the product and help establish best-practices and innovative approaches towards proving that our products meet the expectations of the Medtronic Mission. The position offers excellent opportunity for an engineer interested in designing and executing systems engineering activities to produce reliable and successful products. Candidates should have demonstrated ability to execute independently after receiving high level scope and constraints. Candidates with exposure to systems engineering practice in industry are requested to apply.

Travel Requirements: Travel approximately once per quarter.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop, review, and decompose design inputs and system requirements

  • Understand customer use cases, workflows, and interactions

  • Understand how our software systems interface with other medical device products within the ecosystem

  • Identify technical risks and support risk burn down plan and activities

  • Identify change impacts of software systems to use cases, workflows, and interfaces to other products within the ecosystem

  • Develop and execute a robust and efficient system verification and validation strategy.

  • Review and approve engineering reports, protocols, and other documentation

  • Execute system testing; troubleshoot test failures, identify source of issue, and collaborate with appropriate partners to for resolution; communicate with internal systems & functional experts at various levels

  • Support strategic initiatives aimed at making our systems engineering processes and tools more efficient

  • Understand and execute best practices of Systems Engineering processes, advocate for high quality engineering.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, or an Advanced degree with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience

Basic Qualifications

  • Experience with systems engineering principles

  • Experience with software system to device interfaces

  • Demonstrated ability for independent work

  • Demonstrated domain knowledge and understands applications to assigned projects

  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement by studying and applying technical advances in area of expertise

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with others

  • Excellent communication skills, including written and verbal

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Cardiac Rhythm Management domain

  • Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE)

  • Experience with system-level test automation

  • Familiarity with Design for Six Sigma or related product development processes

  • A person that is versatile, technically savvy, curious, a broad systems thinker, and willing to work in a space with a lot of ambiguity.

  • Good judgment in assessing risks and opportunities of these solutions.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$104,800.00 - $157,200.00This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance, Health Savings Account, Healthcare Flexible Spending Account, Life insurance, Long-term disability leave, Dependent daycare spending account, Tuition assistance/reimbursement, and Simple Steps (global well-being program).
