A Day in the Life

As part of the Corporate Global Technology and Innovation team, the Senior Program Manager Enterprise Technology position will provide project and program management in the design, development, and execution of Enterprise Technology Platforms for use across the enterprise. The role reports directly to the Vice President, Corporate Technology and will drive accountability, timely execution, governance, and escalation of critical issues related to key programs.

This position will work across operating units, regions and functions and is accountable for overall program process and performance, assisting in developing the framework of the platform program’s and maintaining the technology portfolio. Given the deep technical nature of these programs, it is highly desirable for the candidate to have a background in engineering or science.

A Day in the Life:

Project Management

  • Provide overall project management direction and integration in concert with the Enterprise Technology team and sub-teams.
  • Act as primary customer contact for program activities, leading program review sessions to discuss cost, schedule, and technical performance of the technology portfolio
  • This position provides input to establishing program objectives, timelines, milestones, and budget.
  • Maintain effective systems to track project status and report progress against key program deliverables including the creation and maintenance of program dashboards and monitoring tools.
  • Establishes milestones and monitors adherence to master plan and schedule, identifies program problems and obtains solutions, such as allocation of resources or changing contractual specifications
  • Works with Platform technology teams to analyze Medtronic data and external benchmarking to discover best practices and gaps to goal, and suggested next steps.
  • This position solves issues through information exchange, influence, and active persuasion without direct exercise of command to gain cooperation of other parties on program execution plans
  • Identifies opportunities for continuous improvement of planning processes on basis of feedback from R&D and functional partners
    • Facilitates cross-business team input to develop playbook and resources that work globally, technically, and across business units
    • Work with Enterprise Technology leadership and related teams to target communications across the R&D organization
    • Develops and updates ongoing communication plan to various stakeholders
    • Prepares communications and determines best use of medium for communication

    Nice to Have:

    • Bachelor’s degree in science or engineering
    • 5+ years of research and development experience in the Medical Device field
    • Demonstrated success at dealing with ambiguity and delivering successful outcomes
    • Demonstrated ability to successfully lead people, teams, and projects and to get results through others
    • Experience in establishing program objectives, timelines, milestones, and budgets
    • Mastery of Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Word)
    • Master’s degree in science or engineering field and/or PhD in Science, Engineering
    • Master’s in Business Administration (MBA)
    • Medtronic Lean Sigma Green or Black Belt certified or equivalent
    • Program Management Professional (PMP) certification
    • CAP or other change management training experience
    • Experience in technology and/or product pipeline strategy development
    • Demonstrated proficiency in innovation management and resource planning.
    • Demonstrated understanding and application of financial planning and analysis.
    • Demonstrated ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical information and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
    • Demonstrated success facilitating a team
    • Ability to analyze individual projects in the context of the entire portfolio
    • Ability to scope & manage local and remote projects
    • Demonstrated success in driving large, complex programs to successful completion.
    • Demonstrated ability to work in a matrix business environment - excellent leadership, change management and influencing skills.
    • Excellent decision-making skills, considering all relevant factors and stakeholders.

    Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$182,400.00 - $273,600.00This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

    The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).

    The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance, Health Savings Account, Healthcare Flexible Spending Account, Life insurance, Long-term disability leave, Dependent daycare spending account, Tuition assistance/reimbursement, and Simple Steps (global well-being program).
