A Day in the Life
As a Senior Operations Controls Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in designing, developing, and optimizing manufacturing processes and systems to ensure operational excellence. You will drive process automation, implement advanced controls strategies, and collaborate across teams to deliver high-quality products that meet Medtronic's standards of innovation and patient care.This is an on-site position supporting our manufacturing operations in Brooklyn Center, MN.
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.
- Controls Systems Development: Design, program, and optimize PLCs, HMIs, and SCADA systems to ensure efficient and reliable manufacturing operations.
- Process Optimization: Analyze manufacturing workflows and implement advanced control strategies to improve efficiency, reduce downtime, and enhance product quality.
- Troubleshooting and Maintenance: Provide technical expertise in diagnosing and resolving issues with automated systems and controls equipment.
- Project Management: Lead cross-functional teams on automation and controls projects, ensuring timely delivery within budget and scope.
- Compliance: Ensure all systems and processes comply with regulatory standards, including ISO, FDA, and GMP requirements.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement solutions to enhance productivity and reduce costs.
- Training: Mentor and train junior engineers and technicians on controls systems and best practices.
Must-Have Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
- 4+ years of experience in controls engineering, automation, or industrial systems design.
Nice-to-Have Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Engineering or related field.
- Experience with robotics ( Epson, Fanuc, Adept/Omron), vision systems (Cognex, Keyence), Vision Lighting, OEE and IIoT integration in manufacturing.
- Expertise in programming PLCs (e.g., Allen Bradley, Omron), HMIs, and SCADA systems (Allen Bradley, Ignition).
- Strong knowledge of industrial communication protocols.
- Experience in designing and implementing control loops and process instrumentation.
- Familiarity with regulatory standards (ISO, FDA, GMP).
- Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing certification.
- Proficiency in simulation and modeling tools (e.g., MATLAB, Simulink).
- Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices for industrial control systems.
