We’re currently hiring a Senior Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist for our Medtronic Energy Component Center (MECC) in Brooklyn Center, MN. This is an onsite role with high visibility and impact at a fast-paced manufacturing and R&D site.
In this role, you’ll lead health and safety programs, ensure compliance with EHS regulations, and partner with teams across the organization to drive proactive improvements. Key areas include Machine Guarding, Lockout/Tagout, PPE, Ergonomics, incident investigations, and chemical exposure assessments. You’ll also leverage lean methodologies to foster continuous improvement.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.
You will be a key EHS team member in a fast paced, complex manufacturing and state of the art technology (Research and Development) center. In this exciting role as Senior EHS Specialist, you will be responsible for development and implementation of Health and Safety (HS) policies, programs, and systems to comply with Federal, State, and local EHS regulations as well as Company policies, strategies, initiatives, and goals.
Major areas of emphasis include Safety (e.g. Machine Guarding, LOTO, Cranes & Hoists, PPE assessments, Job Hazard Assessments, Chemical Safety) and Health Programs (Ergonomics, Medical Surveillance, Support with Case Management & Worker’s Compensation, Incident investigation, overseeing chemical exposure assessments and annuals chemical sampling, & noise surveys).
Ability to make decisions and work independently with some supervision & leverage lean manufacturing principles to drive efficiency and stay organized
Ability to connect and build relationships with fast paced frontline production team, engineers, and leadership in a complex manufacturing environment, drive proactive health and safety systems and improvements using lean methodologies (e.g. Kaizens), be comfortable spending time on the production floor and be proficient with EHS data analyses and software systems, EHS project and program development and sustenance.
Proven technical, problem solving, and project management skills
Ability to successfully manage multiple projects, create mechanisms for efficiency and daily responsibilities while staying organized
Excellent communication and training skills required.
Self-motivation with ability to multi-task, prioritize and organize work to meet deadlines and multiple requests
Other responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
Develops, Improves, facilitate employee training and awareness on matters of health, and safety.
Maintain and update OSHA logs, perform data analyses of EHS information system for leading and lagging indicators.
Assist with select safety projects as need arises (e.g. EHS Kaizens, cuts and lacerations, slip trip fall)
Conduct risk assessments for new equipment, new procedures or operations, facility renovation projects, and research protocols.
Supports incident investigations, develops and drives CAPA mechanism.
Develop EH&S reports, presentations and communications.
This position may provide work direction to others in support of day-to-day activities and requires excellent communication skills.
Applies knowledge of professional Health and Safety principles, theories and concepts and uses independent judgment to develop and design practical
solutions to complex EHS issues.
Evaluate proposed regulations to determine financial, industrial, and public impact.
Manage/Deliver projects as assigned and work with stakeholders to achieve desired results.

Minimum Requirements
Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience
OR
An advanced degree with a minimum of 2 years relevant experience.
Nice to Have
Advanced degree (Master’s or above) in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or related field
Professional certifications (e.g. CSP, CIH, CHMM, OSHA 30-hour, Lean/Six Sigma, ISO)
Experience in fast-paced, complex manufacturing, especially with advanced technology
Hands-on expertise with environmental, health, and safety programs: machine guarding, LOTO, PPE assessments, chemical safety, ergonomics, and noise surveys, SDS management, hazardous waste management, ISO 14001/45001, Emergency Response Team (ERT)
Proven ability to apply lean methodologies (e.g., Kaizen, 5S) to drive EHS improvements and efficiency
Demonstrated project management skills, including managing multiple EHS initiatives concurrently
Strong background in incident investigation, root cause analysis, and implementing CAPA mechanisms
Proficiency in EHS data analysis, OSHA log maintenance, and generating leading/lagging indicator reports
Experience developing and delivering EHS training and communication to diverse audiences
Ability to build relationships and collaborate with production teams, engineers, and leadership
Experience conducting risk assessments for new equipment, processes, and facility changes to implement actions to reduce risk and environmental impact
Multilingual skills or experience working in a global/regional EHS role
Proficient in Microsoft applications, Software systems e.g. Enablon, Storyline, Agile, Windchill, Concur

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
