As the Senior Director of CST Hardware Engineering, you will lead and develop a cutting-edge Hardware Engineering organization which engineers extraordinary Cranial, Spine, and ENT surgical solutions and experiences through system design and system integration leveraging robotic, imaging, and navigation technologies along with powered, energized, and shunting instrumentation all connected in an ecosystem that leverages data and intelligence to advance patient outcomes and improve surgical efficiency.
A Day in the Life
In this exciting role as a Senior Director of global hardware development, you will have the following responsibilities, and other duties may be assigned when required:
· Lead and develop global Electrical and Mechanical Engineering teams supporting new product development, sustaining engineering, and technology innovation.
· Define and execute a global hardware engineering strategy aligned with business and technology roadmaps.
· Ensure consistent application of design controls, hardware development processes, and best practices across all sites.
· Partner with Systems, Software, Quality, Regulatory, Operations, and Supply Chain to deliver robust, manufacturable, and compliant products.
· Own organizational design, workforce planning, budget management, and succession planning for global hardware engineering.
· Drive innovation in electronics, electromechanics, and mechanical design, including reliability, safety, and cost optimization.
· Mentor leaders and engineers, fostering engagement, inclusion, and career growth. Support global regulatory submissions and audits.
· Travel internationally and domestically (<20%).
Must Have: Minimum Requirements
· Bachelors Degree in Engineering with 12+ years of engineering experience and 7+ years technical leadership experience – OR – an Advanced Degree in Engineering with 10+ years of engineering experience and 7+ years technical leadership experience
· Fluent in both verbal and written technical English.
Nice to Haves
· Expertise in the medical device industry or in the surgery field.
· Expertise in developing and managing high-performing teams.
· Expertise in complex system integration and hardware/software interactions.
· Expertise in using tools and models that facilitate system design.
· Expertise in applying medical device regulations to product design.
· Expertise in requirements development and safety risk management practices for medical device design.
· Expertise in robotic-assisted surgery, computer-assisted surgery, anatomical imaging, powered drill, and/or radio frequency instrumentation technologies.
· Expertise in planning and conducting user evaluations of product designs, analyzing data, documenting evaluation methods and results, and presenting design recommendations to product teams.
· Expertise with hardware design.
· Ability to provide creativity while solving complex problems without known solutions.
· Ability to quickly prototype new concepts and ideas.
· Ability to assess new technologies via comprehensive reviews of state-of-the-art.
· Good at communicating complex technical opportunities, challenges, and other information to project and organizational leaders in a concise but thorough fashion.
· Skill in project management including leading a technical team as well as planning and estimation of tasks, milestones, resources, and budget.
· Strong leadership skills and mentoring capabilities.
· Strong ability to drive change – including design practices and processes – throughout the organization.
· Ability to work with individuals from different geographic locations and cultures.
For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
U.S. Candidates
